I wonder what kind of camera was needed for those shots. They are breath taking!
I'd love to see a launch, I think that would be pretty cool, I've been told the night launches are very cool.

Launches are awe inspiring, but are over very quickly. I saw a daylight launch a few years back and the shuttle itself was out of sight after about 30 seconds. A minute later and there was nothing left to do but watch the exhaust plume dissipate.

The first shot was taken with a Nikon D40 92mm focal length ISO400 F8 1/250sec shutter speed.
The rest were taken with a Canon 10D. Wide shots around 30-35mm focal length, closer shots at 105mm focal length. ISO mainly 100 F8 1/500 sec shutter speed.
All info from Exif data.
