night photography shots

Mon Apr 07, 2008 7:43 pm

Hello all,

Tonight I did some more practising with night photography and flashlight painting. I used a machanics light with colored bulbs i.e red and green. I set my Nikon D80 to manual with f5.6 aparture and an exposure time of between 15-25 seconds. I just played around with it and used the lighting in my dodge Dart. I am not sure why but I can only get my camera to for an exposure time of only up to 25 seconds. How can I set it for more time? :?:

Anyway here are a few shots. Practise, practise, practise. :D

enjoy,
Nathan

Check your operators manual for a shutter lock. I used to be a photographer in the USAF and our old Nikons had a manual shutter lock option. One click and open, and second click and closed. Be sure to use a cable trigger which screws into small hole in button. Allows for operations without touching camera.

having shutter lock in a very dark location allows you to move about and paint with light. You must calculate just how long to leave the light on a subject before turning off and moving to the next location or changing color.
