Just wanted to share this.

I read this on a local blog the other day and found it very moving. While I know most of you don't agree with the election results you have to agree the country has taken an amazing step forward in other aspects.

I ride the 7 bus to work those mornings I can't face my bicycle. It comes up from south Seattle and traverses rich and poor neighborhoods, the International District, Pioneer square and Downtown. Usually, it is a hateful, loud, messy conglomeration of tired people. This morning, an older black man sat with a grin on his face. He was dressed for construction work. Out of the blue, he shouted, "YES, we can!" It was completely infectious - people responded in a chorus of "Yes, we can," and there was clapping, and there were grins, ear to ear. And we rode on together

Every time I hear "yes we can" I think my kid is watching a "Bob the Builder" DVD again.....

Al,
H-E-L-L yes they're happy; I bet quite a few of those bus riders were made up of the 40+% of Americans who don't pay federal income taxes...they're happy about the extra welfare checks they'll be getting (at MY expense, I might add!)

PS Zane, feel free to start the countdown again...

If they wanna lock it up that's fine. I just wanted to share something I was happy to hear about. I know not all of us agree and never will and that's fine. We're all here for the Warbird interest first and foremost. I'm not trying to get anybody wound up to the point the thread should be locked down. I just think we should at least respect each other a little more than it seems we do. Something big happened in this country. A huge boundary was broken. It's only been two days and the man isn't even in office yet. Maybe he will surprise you. Maybe not. I'm hoping in 4 years I can say "I told you so". If he completely screws up everything i'll gladly accept your criticism. Of the options out there he was the one I share more beliefs with, have faith in and trust.

Sorry about the rant and it's not directed at anybody personally.

Feel free to lock away.

No, I won't be surprised. He's already promised to raise both my personal income tax as well as those of our family owned small business. What's he going to do with some of the extra taxes he will impose on us? Give it to someone who didn't earn it. SPREAD THE WEALTH! Enjoy it if you get it, dude. I wish everyone knew what a royal pain in the ass starting and running your own business can be.

Rant over (for now), Pat

Spooky, It made me smile. I know what you meant. I walked into the VA today and saw a ton of pissed of looking old white dudes, and shared a grin with an old black korean vet I know who lives at the housing faulty there. His first words to me were "YES WE CAN!" And we can.

Now go shave your beard and get a haircut, you damned hippie! :P

Let there be no reason now...[APPLAUSE]

Let there be no reason now for any American to fail to cherish their citizenship in this, the greatest nation on Earth. [APPLAUSE]

Sen. Obama has achieved a great thing for himself and for his country. I applaud him for it, and offer him my sincere sympathy that his beloved grandmother did not live to see this day. Though our faith assures us she is at rest in the presence of her creator and so very proud of the good man she helped raise.

Sen. Obama and I have had and argued our differences, and he has prevailed. No doubt many of those differences remain.

These are difficult times for our country. And I pledge to him tonight to do all in my power to help him lead us through the many challenges we face.

I urge all Americans...[APPLAUSE]

I urge all Americans who supported me to join me in not just congratulating him, but offering our next president our good will and earnest effort to find ways to come together to find the necessary compromises to bridge our differences and help restore our prosperity, defend our security in a dangerous world, and leave our children and grandchildren a stronger, better country than we inherited.

It's a shame that so few actually listened to the words of the man they wanted to win, or feel that he deserved their support. They must not, since they've immediately ignored what he has called on them to do.

I'm sure he's anguished that he lost this election. But I am also pretty sure that he regrets the fact that his supporters don't have a clue who he really is, or care. Sort of makes me feel sorry for him.

We'll see who dosen't know what's going on... if the dems do to healthcare, the military and social securtiy what they did to the housing sector I would say yes you can run this country into the ground. McCain wasn't the best but 4 years of what we got now is better than what were going to get.... You just wait and see.

Spooky, I sincerely hope that you will be able to say that. That is my "Hope".

But given the president-elects stance on certain issues and his running-mates record for the last 30 years I have my concerns. Hope it all turns out for the best...

Thanks Hal for a respectful reply. I too hope for good things to come and that he does offer some things you can agree with him on.

Now get that museum back open (January, right?) as i'm jonesing for a Warbird fix and I haven't been up there yet.
