Stumac, this is not about racing, and its from me, so to save the trouble of complaining why don't you just skip it, and read elsewhere. I'll give your posts the same courtesy.
Zane, that is a great photo of your Son the Eagle Scout under "Off Topics" forum. I would have answered there, but it won't take posts from us great unwashed masses. How old is he, and does he fly? When he is ready to go for his entrance visit to U T let me know and maybe we can fly down in the Spit.
My Son went fairly far in Scouts, but not an Eagle. The Son of his pack leader did make Eagle. When I was a kid in Houston I was a Scout, don't think I advanced very far, but I enjoyed being out in the woods. When had a great site just off Memorial Drive along Buffalo Bayou called Camp Hudson. It was wooded and had a big cabin type house. I can still recall the photo on the wall of Custer"s Last Stand, come to think of it it was probably a Budweiser poster. That location is now a fancy gated community and I think it still might be called Hudson Estates or something.
When it came time for my younger Son to be a Cub Scout there were no volunteers for den leader so I recruited another Dad and we did it. I was none too good at it, but we did do some fun outdoor hikes and such things. We took all the kids, except one, flying. To avoid dealing with any liability issues, we did not call it a Scout thing. I asked all the parents to sign my personal liability waiver and surprisingly all were willing to trust their kids to me even when I pointed out that we were using a vintage private plane, my J3 Cub. Only one boy did not go, his parents were fine with it, but he himself was too scared so opted out, Of course we picked an nice day and it all went fine for the other 8 or 9 kids. I know years ago there used to be Air Scouts, but I don't know the details.

Way to go on the Eagle! Like Bill, I didn't make it that far. I did have a lot of fun camping and canoeing, and have used a lot of skills in life I picked up through Boy Scouts.

I almost made it...3 merit badges and a project away when they switched leaders on us. Went from having a great scout leader to a....well, not a great scout leader.
I'm an aviation merit badge counselor now, which is pretty cool.

He is a great kid (young man). He worked hard for the rank. Loves the outdoors, has a steady girl (that thought scares me) likes old folks and little kids. He is making good grades in school, getting ready for college, probably UT Arlington, looking at a history major ( I don't know how he will make money but he loves the stuff, so more power to him! )
He doesn't have the aviation bug, he loves cars and anything else that goes zoom. He gets a kick out of seeing real airplanes fly...not airliners and Cessna's but the real ones! Likes seeing a Mustang or F-16 doing it's thing...The C-47 is his favorite.
He is a much better guy than I was at his age. His mom deserves the credit.

Congrats to your son and to you too Zane - don't sell yourself short.
I made Eagle and consider that to be an achievement that took a long time for me to realize its positive impact on my life. I don't see much of the Boy Scouts nowadays and consider that a loss to the Country - sure great to see what your son has done and hope that there's more of that going on than is seen on the surface.

I became an Eagle Scout at 16....little did I know how much of an impact it would have on me later in life. I can contribute much of who I am today because of it.

I made Eagle when I was 17. I second what DenverWarbirdFan said. It has helped me in ways I couldnt imagine. The instant respect and head start you get when people find out you're an Eagle is immeasurable.
While, I do not have any kids of my own yet, I have been an educator for over 13 years. I have attended a few Courts of Honor at the request of some former students. I also make myself available to counsel on a few Merit Badges where I can.

You'd be amazed how many famous or unfamous military folks are Eagle Scouts. I can name at lease a dozen great pilots from around here who are like VF-17 ace Oc Chenoweth and Blev & Asa Lewelling (49th FG P38/43rd BG B-24). Every last one of them were fine folks!
