Whats a good Laptop Computer These Days?

Sun Mar 01, 2009 7:35 am

I'm looking for a good affordable laptop computer. Any advice on a solid, reliable model? I'd like to stay under $1000.00. Thanks.

There's some decent HPs out there for well under $1,000... they all have Windows Vista, so my best piece of advice is to get one with at least 3GB of memory and get as big of a hard drive as you can afford. I typed this message on one that I bought at Best Buy in August 2007 and it's pretty reliable...

I just recently bought a laptop -- ended up spending more money because of some features I wanted, but I remember seeing a nice looking H-P at about a grand on the Costco website. It did have 64 bit Vista rather than 32 bit. The nice thing about 64 bit is that it apparently will support much more RAM than the 32 bit setup, which with Vista is apparently a very good thing. I was quite impressed with the Costco pricing of laptops.

I think you can get a MacBook for under $1,000 US. We bought ours in May last year, and have no complaints. But then we've been Mac users for a decade or so now.

Just an alternative.

Dunno about that. Having '0' interest in games and a magazine background, I was inducted into Macs with Warbirds Worldwide. Having used PCs for day jobs in retail, management etc, I'd stick to Macs because they just work.
