Pylons are up just north and west of Ellis Island.., we will have a GREAT view this weekend. They are starting practice today at 12 Noon EST. Very excited as this is the first race I have witnessed in person. Can not wait. Anyone know anyone on here who is in it?

best,

Smisek

Less windy today.., pylons are back up. There should be some practice runs today.., qualifying tomorrow and finals on Sunday.

I will post some pics as things unfold.

Cheers!

Let us know if any warbirds participate. The Russell 109E was on hand for the last race, in Windsor/Detroit a couple weeks ago.

Just saw it from my boat. They established a security zone about a mile south from the pylons. Was kind hard to see the whole thing. And you can't anchor. So you have to keep your motor running and watch for hundreds of other boats near you. It was fun, but the most time I spend was just maneuvering and listening to the Coast Guard, Police and other authorities telling us not to cross yellow boys line. But it was fun. Water was rather choppy for my 21 footer, but I enjoyed the she show.

And as far as can figure it out there where no war birds. All planes had fixed gear.

yah.., boring as all get out.., no warbirds.., just tiny homebuilts all the same style.., same type.., boooooring!!!!! can not imagine being in the mess in a boat.., looked rough on Saturday.., less choppy on Sunday.. watched it from the safety of the dock by my apartment in Battery Park. Hazy weather.,. much clearer on the TV with 'haze filtering cameras' and of course AC!!!!!

Very disappointed.., was expecting anything other than what I saw and heard.., my fault for thinking it would be warbirds.., impressive flying though.., do not want to undermine the absolute precision skill of the pilots.., but from a Warbird standpoint.,. she was a flatliner.

And here are some pix I took from my boat. It was kinda tricky. Maneuvering the boat, trying to watch the show and take pictures at the same time :)

And it was funny how I got there. I don't watch TV, don't read newspapers. Don't listen news radio. So I had no idea. Saturday I heard something about "air show" on the marine VHF. Sunday we went fishing in Raritan Bay. And about 1pm I started to hear the some questions to Coast Guard about the security zone for air race and I figured something is going to happen there. So I hit the throttle and headed to the upper NY bay. Got there just in time to see it. :)

My wife knew about it, as she reads NY Times everyday and she knew how much I love airplanes. But she "forgot" to tell. Anyway, she enjoyed it also.
