US Navy Aircraft tug....

Sat Oct 13, 2012 3:02 pm

One of my bad habits involves old tractors....International Harvesters specifically. I already have a '47 Farmall H and had been keeping an eye on some local "yard art" a few blocks away. Sure enough, it came up for sale and I snapped it up. Now the interesting part is, there's a US Navy property tag riveted to the hood and very faint stenciling also visible on the hood.

The tag on the hood says "NAS Moffat Field" and the serial number has the Y14 suffix indicating it was built for the Navy in 1943. :supz:

Possible Blimp tug?

I would say International I9 (gasoline). If it was Diesel it would be ID9 and the exhaust pipe would be on the right side of the hood, and both the carb and the mag would be on the right side. Carb and Mag on a Diesel you say!! They had a gas start/Diesel run system in the same cylinders. Not a pony motor. Was nearly the same tractor as a McCormick Deering W9 (Diesel would be WD9). The year can be determined by casting date codes if the serial tag is missing. Hugh

Yep! It's an I-9 Industrial.

Looks like a few I-6's and/or I-9's....
