Basic camera gear for an airshow

Thu Jun 24, 2004 8:41 pm

What would be a good basic gear selection for an airshow? Lense suggestion? Tripod or Monopod? Etc...

My basic film loadout is as follows:
Canon EOS Elan IIE
28-80mm USM 1:3.5-5.6 zoom
75-300mm USM 1:4-5.6 zoom

Suggestions for upgrades? I'm planning on a 10D or DigRebel back when money permits.

Scott,

Sounds good to me. It is not so much what you have, but how you use it. As long as the lens is sharp that is all you need.

eos 10 with the same lenses you listed but with a flash set up and a monopod ( just in case as tripods and crowds.. well not good. ) and a range of films ( in case the weather turns nasty or you go indoors ) and a second body ( eos 650 ) with spare batteries for both cameras and flash.

Nah, I can't get my wife to go to airshows- and usually she wants me to carry HER purse! :x

you need a wife like mine who is as into photography as I am. she carrys her own gear and helps me as much like that as I help her with her shots.

Oh no I don't! I can't afford more than one... Besides, I don't want to have to fight over the equipment.

I have a 380EX Speedlite flash I carry in the case, forgot to list it. When funds permit I intend to get a Canon 10D digital body and the Elan IIE will become the backup.

I am finding that a monopod might be a good thing to have.

nah, you don't fight for the gear, you just make it a point of buying compatable gear and agree that if it is YOUR shoot then you get choice of equipement, HER shoot she gets choice.
That way no fights for best gear and if you keep the stuff together neither one gets the "cast offs"
might not work for everyone but certainly works well here. Next buy is, as Scott said, an eos 10d and is about 6 months away.

and you'd like the rationale I am using to convince her to get a digital.
" well this way I can snap away while you are working on your shots and even if you's don't work there might be something usefull in mine. I just won't delete anything till we get home."
