About a jillon years ago when I was a teenager it snowed in Houston. I had already been on one ski trip to Colorado so I got out some skis and went over to the local golf course and tried to ski down the small hills there. Not too successful, the snow was so wet that it just stuck to the bottom of the skis and we couldn't slide, I didn't know enough to try the correct wax then for warm wet new snow, and probably didn't have any ski was handy anyway, but we tried, and it beat going to school.

Was Al Gore going to be giving a Global Warming lecture there?
Sat Dec 05, 2009 5:02 pm
Now all those conservatives and folks in the petrochemical industry are going to be saying, "See, I told you there was no global warming "

From a Austin Texas news source.
Global Warming lecture postponed due to cooling
Given the travel advisories issued and the likelihood of freezing weather for the Austin area tomorrow evening, we are postponing the December 4 event, Global Warming - Lone Star Impacts.
Has anyone else noticed that with the climategate emails out all these scientists sound like the quote from the Wizard of Oz?
"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain"

When I lived in NooAwlunz back in the 70's I'd crack up at the news folks on the local stations going into 'Chicken little' mode whenever it got icy or frosty. Of course, N.O. only has two winos with a salt shaker for ice and snow removal and the streets are heavily crowned for rain run off so cars can literally stop at a light and do a 'Laugh-in' style trike tip over and slide off the road sideways.
Being a rider, my least favorite thing in Washington state is their continued permitting of carbide studded snow tires which make the roads like wagon ruts next Summer, lots of fun on a motorcycle staying between the greae strip in the middle of the lane and the wagon ruts like about 8 inches. Right now it's 26 f outside, clear as a bell, no ice, no snow, but if you stand on the corner you can hear dozens of yuppies in their mommy boxes whiz past on dry pavement with 4 studs on, and the only ice they'll see all winter is in their holiday drinks-Eastern Washington, different story.

Snowed up here yesterday for a while, then turned to sleet - at the 3200' level we usually get a little of each. Today is bright and sunny, and the mountains around Yucca Valley have a picturesque dusting. Even if I haven't quite escaped all the snow like I grew up with in Chicago, it's a lot nicer to look at!

C'mon up here to Deeetroit. We are going to have some fun the next three days. Snow then sleet then rain then snow again and 40mph winds and 20' temperatures after the low goes through!!!!! Why did I move back here from Florida again?
