Chop tops and customs

Anyone into chopping tops or customizing your car or motorcycle? This is my 72 Chevy C10 2WD. I chopped the top four inches removed the gas tank from the cab and replaced it with a poly tank now located under the bed. I got rid of the bumpers and fabricated roll pans in their place. I just got my windshield made last Tuesday and I'm finishing up the windshield cut out area. My long term plan is to lower it five inches in the front and four in the rear and it will be flat black.

I also replaced the stock headlights with 1932 Ford commercial truck headlight.

I removed the drip rails, that was fun :roll:

Looks good, now comes the fun stuff like glass and all the little details. I've done a lot of auto stuff over the last 40 years (I've been known to drive a Cad powered 'A' roadster from time to time), but never lowered the roof on anything. Too lazy, or maybe I just know my limitations :wink:

I would love to see any pics you may have of your A! A cad powered A sounds like one bad dad! Thanks for the compliment, I appreciate it. I plan on one piece door glass. This is my first custom/chop and am learning to weld as I go. I have to thank my dad for letting me steal the truck from him and my kids for putting up with endless hours at the shop while I cut weld and grind. One day it will belong to one of them.

It's kind of buried in the garage, but here you go: '31 A body and frame, chopped '32 grille, '55 Cad 331 with a '57 Eldorado intake, early Hydro and '55 Chev rear end.

I didn't build it, but did a lot of work to bring it back to life. I've still got some major re-work on the rear suspension I want to do if I ever get this house remodel done...

That thing is awesome very understated and simple, I love that :!:

To many people are flaming their rods (in my opinion) these days its to "new skewl" But rods that are no B.S. like yours are the best kind :!:

Thanks for the compliment. It really looks a lot better in photos than it is in real life :shock:

Thankfully, you can't see the wheel & tire combo. it's got on. Got to change them out and do away with the bright yellow plug wires...

Hey thanks for all of the pictures. There are a few rods that run around here in Waxahachie, TX, but nothing starts until spring/summer. Keep us updated on the Chevy P/U......

That '32 Chev. is cool

Wish there were more of them around. When I was about 14 I had the chance to pick up a running 32 Chev. 5-window for $35 and my dad said "NO WAY!" Never really did forgive him for that decision

Guess at the time he just had different priorities for me than I did.

Hal, here's another old shot of my "32". Dad owned a Mobil station for 28yrs. I worked there for about 15yrs, back when they were "service" stations.
