Since people seem to think that the off-topic section is for political discussion, something that is frowned upon, I have temporarily closed the section. ANY political discussions in any other forum will be deleted and the user suspended. I have had it with the politically motivated comments.

Trust me, that's what I like about this site, someone out there usually knows whats happening with these specific aircraft almost before the owner does. Look at almost every project that's been posted on this board.

I consider myself a pretty openminded conservative patriot. For whatever reason, Bill never got under my skin. I have known him for about 25 years and he has been the same consistent person. I have never seen him spit on a veteran, burn the flag or wear it as an article of clothing. Other than his far left view points he is a pretty good citizen.
Some people in the warbird community don't hold up well when put under the microscope. One razorback P-47 owner was a child molester. Many warbird owners that were my childhood heros went to jail for drug trafficking. One guy that owned a black P-38 was into drug trafficking and his ex wife turned up murdered in Alabama.
Bill gave my wife's step-grandfather, Ron Edwards Sr., a free ride in his Spifire, back in the 1980's just because he was a veteran, and had worked on them in Burma. Not excusing his words, just pointing out that his actions and good deeds probably outweigh his verbal and internet misdeeds.

Bill is one of the handful of people here I've actually met in person. I enjoyed speaking with him at the WIX party at OSH a couple years ago, but the internet is a different animal as far as people interacting, and the rules are the rules. I agree, some of his constant polically themed posts were very tiring. Scott has spoken. So be it.

I agree totally. I stopped listening to the Dixie Chicks because they decided to mix music and their views on politics. I wasn't interested in their views, just the music.

I don't normally weigh in on these types of threads but I do want Scott to know I appreciate his efforts and I support his decision. In this case, supporting his decision is not only easy but almost a relief. The fact that either of these "gentlemen" lasted this long is proof of Scott's patience.

Scott, thanks for being honest with us and for running this great board.

A Wayne Dyer quote "What people think of me is not of my business"

If the comments are sexist, violent, racial, or criminal, then action needs to be taken otherwise perhaps there is another way.

This is my favorite forum, I appreciate the opportunity to partcipate on it.

I really liked Bill Greenwood posts.

Sorry

I'm sorry to see Bill go. I personally liked his posts, even if I disagreed with him. He was becoming more combative and posting things that were not relative to what we do here, and I would like to know why as opposed to seeing him outright banned. I know that the ban is permanent, but have some hope that he solicits another chance here and can clean up his act. I only got to meet him once hastily at KOSH and he had to run for a pilot's briefing. I hope that we find some Bonhomie and he is welcomed back again, but am not in any way trying to influence what was done- those are just my wishes and I respect the choices of the moderators. Blue Skies, Bill, and I hope you get your plane back soon!

So...having a leftist view means that you're not a 'good citizen'?

Bill Greenwood's a good man. Always has been, always will be, Those of you who think otherwise, all I can say is I'm sorry for you. You may need to open your minds a bit more. Bill has always come across to me as a "cranky old man" type. You listen to his rants and raves politically and you don't give it too much thought. Just like you should do with me ... lolol... I wish I had more to offer to you all than what I tend to post here on WIX. I usually post simple questions because I'm not that smart I guess. Bill would put me to shame.

Bill will be sorely missed, it's too bad Scott had to do what he had to do, I understand his decision completely. Scott's in the middle getting hammered by all sides and I know he gets hundreds of PM's from pissed off members. I've read some of them. What would you do in Scott's shoes? ... Bill doesn't have a bad bone in his body, but Bill has a very politically charged mind frame. And all of you better think twice about how you think about Bill's leftist thoughts, because I'll bet you all have had similar thoughts. But I'll state it before one of you remind me. This site is about warbirds only, yes I get it too. It's a darn shame to lose Bill. He had and has more to offer this site warbird wise than most of us will ever have. He had more to offer politically than most of us could bare. In my short time here I could always balance what was most valuable about Bill Greenwood. And his positives always outwayed his negaitves. What happened with the banning of Bill Greenwood was a hit to WIX. You'll all see down the road. Just like when I get banned ... haha right!

One thing that I cannot seem to get a grasp on here on WIX is the fact that some here think that some of us (probably me) are bringing down WIX to a place where supposedly great members are leaving in bucket loads. Many supposed great members that have vast amounts of wonderful warbird information are withdrawn by all the soap opera crap going on. Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm a controversial member, maybe I'm just not a chickensh*t ... oops did I say that? ... haha .... I've stated this a few times. If you don't care for a thread and where it has gone or is going, why the h*ll do you even bother to read it and follow it and respond to it? Move on to something that you DO like. I do and I have zero problems.

I'll say it again, you have a problem, you have something that gets under your skin? leave it alone and walk away to another thread. I do and it works fine for me.

As for Bill Greenwood, I've never met the man ... but I'll miss a teacher and a friend.

Scott, the needs of the many out weight the needs of the few ... lol, what movie was that from?

From the couple of time I met the man I agree. He is a good guy. On a personal level I would not have a problem sitting down and having a beer with him. But his presence on the forum proved to be a problem and unfortunately it led to the banning.

This forum is about warbirds and to a lesser extent military aviation, and thats it. I will be reopening the off topic section soon for other subjects but that doesn't mean thats a free for all area and control and decorum will have to be exercised by those who use that section.

Sat Jan 17, 2009 8:01 pm

Scott, your a good man as well and one h*ll of a leader. Who else here could have possibly put this site together? You know what I'm talking about? there's leaders and followers in all phases of life. I don' t need to explain this to you. Just take a look at your member count.

I disagree with your banning of Greenwood, but who cares what I think? I probably would have banned Bill to your open forum and closed it to just Bill Greenwood so Bill Greenwood could fight with himself. That way we all could entertain ourselves watching Bill fight with ... Bill.

But that's just me ....

Not to start a debate here and no disrespect Scott, it's your website, but aren't you being somewhat of a .... you tell me ...
This forum is about warbirds and to a lesser extent military aviation, and thats it.
.. Then why the need for an open forum? Aren't you asking for what you have been getting?

That has always been my understanding on other websites I belong to/lurk on... That the open forum is OPEN, that is, it is off topic, and open to any and all discussions, other than subjects which might be deemed illegal... And usually they are where the gloves come off, and a good dustup is tolerated- until it reaches the point of threats or of repetitive "Do not!","Do Too" "Nuh-uh!" "Uh-huh!" tit for tat spiraling into madness. But open discussions on politics and religion, and cars, and anything else should be allowed- All things which do not belong on the main pages, and all things which should be open to discussion to an open mind. Because even a closed mind may learn by being exposed to an open one.

Personally, I don't mind dustups and on-line argument. I try not to engage in it, but occasionally will, if I feel I want my point heard. But once heard, and defended, and argued over, I hold no malice to the others. Sorta like a schoolyard fight many years back- Sure, you tussled, threw a few fists, but usually it ended up with both sides walking away laughing together. Those should be allowed in the "Open" or 'Off Topic" forums, but not in the main forums. And those who intentionally provoke should be sidelined- but those who get into a good argument, well, they provide information, insight, and entertainment...

Just my 2 cents.

As to the banning, well, you gotta do what you gotta do. I enjoy this site quite a bit, as does everyone associated with it. We want to keep it going.
