It probably has something to do with Homeland Insecurity. There are plenty of angry right wingers and folks coming across the Canadian border they need to be wary of. Don't you know that there are zillions of Stingers on the loose and any civilian aircraft is a real threat, not to mention all the ex-military planes in the hands of people who are not real happy with the government.

If they had let the people know, it would have been like the opening day of dove season. All of those hunters and only one juicy trophy.

They are just trying to keep the people safe, even it it scares the crap out of them.

And hey, they had someone wearing blue willing to take the hit for the bad PR.

Juicy trophy? Whay juicy trophy? A 747 painted like Air Force One???

Come on.., the only airframe people take pockshots at is the Goodyear Blimp. Because it is flying low and slow enough that they can hit it through their beer stained eyes!

Hey 330th-

Did the flight come over Manhattan proper, or did they come up past the Verrazano?

Lynn

The centered around the SOL. So, Jersey City and lower west Manhattan. No really towards the Verrazano.

Sure thing, let's advertise it in the NYT "Next Wednesday at 11am we'd being flying one of the presidential aircraft over the Statue of Liberty flanked by F-16s. Al Qaeda, now that you know please shoot at us." Operation security takes presidence over public irrationality. Photo ops like this have happened all of the time all over. Just google Air Force One and you see they've done these photo ops for years.

If anything is to be learned from this is that the White House just had thier buttons pushed to see how they'd handle the press and they handled it like amateur hour. You never had people freaking out on the low fly overs of those 747s for photo ops at Mt Rushmore, the Gand Canyon, etc...

.

Grow up.

There was not even anyone important on the plane and if the terrorists wanted to take it out, or the white house out., it would have already happened.

What century are you living in?

Also, what country do you live in?

In the US., people do not run around shooting rockets at aircraft. Canadian Geese yes.., but rockets.

Good Grief., the intelligence of some people!

I'm willing to bet the VC-25A stayed at a legal height above all ground structures and they probably kept it under 250kts.

Some people choose not to live in fear.

I'm willing to bet that the aircrew flying it would disagree with you.
