Doug, from chief kandy ass(is that one word or two?): 4 good things about Jonh Kerry 1. He can windsurf and snowboard better than either of us, 2. He has a pilot's license, 3. His wife's got enough money to buy a whole warbird fleet, and 4. Best of all he may be a Yankee, but he ain't no Aggie or Okie! Please note that I am showing great restraint. There are two gay rights ballot issues here, and I am not even going to make any jokes about candy asses.

I believe he dabbles in acting also.
Wasn't he the stand in for Herman Munster?

Mr. Cook, I see you're from Salem - a local! Hi!

Elroy - great icon. I am amused beyond words.

I definitely have some opinions on these subjects, but I'll bite my tongue. Its just as fun to read anyhow, without getting into the thick of it.

There's also a cartoon video out now with Mrs. Clinton and Condoleeza Rice having a ho-down.

From the election results it looks like there might be quite a few other folks around who don't think sending other people's kids to be killed, or maimed is such a noble feat. While he was busy praising Rumsfeld, George sort of forgot the saying that you can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but not both.

Bill,
If we simply walk away from Iraq which it seems what you want. The whole place will just implode. Terrorism will increase ten fold and we can more than likely kiss middle east oil goodbye.

Jack, that is the same tired line that they sold voters and parents for 20 years in Vietnam, until people would no longer buy it, especially from the likes of Nixon, a very Bush like character. How many more young American men and women dead and maimed do you want? Can you answer 2 questions? I If you could, with the benifit of hindsight, go back in time, would you do the Vietnam War again, if the result is the same? II If we stay in Iraq for the reasonable future, perhaps another year or 2, do you really believe that we are going to "win" in any sense of setting up any sort of democratic society friendly to US? And the place is already exploding. I do think it is good that we can discuss this in a reasonable way and my guess is that you sincerely beleive what is not convincing to me or voters.

In your opinion Bill what would happen if we pulled out of Iraq and just walked away? I guaranee you it won't be all laughs and giggles!
I fortunate to have a close fiend who's a annalist specialist on middleast
affairs and he's given me quite a bit of insight on what happening over there.
Whether or not we should have invaded Iraq is a mote point. The fact is that were there and can't just walk away.
I think you're dreaming of is a perfect world Bill. Unfortunately what we have is the real world.

No, of course not. I would not let the country be swayed by the likes of John Kerry and Jane Fonda and I would win the war. Do you think that the US entered the war in Iraq with the expectation of losing? Did John Kerry vote for the war with the expectation of losing before he voted against it?

Not in a year or two. How long did we occupy Japan and Germany after WW2? Was that war worth fighting? Only the losers of the war are seeking an exit strategy and they are being hailed by the terrorists as living up to expectations. Cut and run. That's what the US did in Vietnam and what the Democraps want us to do now in Iraq. History has shown that the radical Islamists can wait out Western powers because war is unpopular in free countries.

Bill Clinton didn't even get to a point where he could put his tail between his legs and cut and run. He just made enough smoke to convince his constituents that he was doing something, but he taught the terrorists that the US had no resolve whatsoever. This empowered them to move on to bigger and better things like 9/11.

Can't say what effect the election will have on the war, but guess which party the terrorists were rooting for?

We've been in the Persian Gulf everyday "occupy'' Iraq with our military sense 1991, we’ve been taxing our military with the operational requirements to keep our thumb on Saddam sense 1991, We've watched him repeatedly threaten neighboring countries, we watched him slaughter the people he ruled over. We’ve watched him play games and make a mockery of not only the UN but also the US when he repeatedly broke the cease-fire for Gulf War I. It was time to finish what should have been done the first time around. I think our failure to hold Iraq and Saddam responsible for what happened in his country and what he did to Kuwait and what he agreed to when the fighting stopped from the First Gulf sent a very clear picture to our enemies that we don’t have the stomach or the will to finish things. I feel that our lack of a response to Saddam and then the repeated provocation of Bin Laden help lead to the attacks on 9/11.

If we don’t help Iraq get on its feet now we will see the blood shed in Iraq that will make what is going on now look like a walk in the park. It will only force the US and or the UN to return to that area to try and pick up the pieces again. But how many will die between the time we leave and we are forced to come back.

Why does most of the Military folks like the President, I think it is because they feel he respects them (something I never could say under President Clinton). He is also “finishing” the job over there; Every time I was deployed to the Persian Gulf most of us wanted nothing more than to finish the job.

I hoped things would have gone better, I think with resolve things will turn around and I pray that Iraq is capable of ruling itself very soon and the people there can understand what it is like to live in a free country that allows them to think freely and to speak their minds without the fear of being shot, tortured and dumped into some pit in the desert.

Tim

You bet I did, I don't do things half-a**ed! If I am considering a move to your state I've gotta be fearless!

Glad to be here, amongst friends, so thank you.

Steph,

Welcome and grab a bucket of tomatoes just in case! D*mn, if it takes a thread on politics to get a beer swillin, smart talkin, airplane lovin broad into the WIX fold, let's start another thread on religion or maybe something less provocative like why jets are better than props. Bill Greenwood a Spitfire-flying, native Texan candy-ass? YGBSM! That had to be directed at someone else. By the way, candy-ass is two words, properly starts with a "c" in correct American English, a "k" in Great Britain, and universally hyphenated. Kerry's lost me til he trades in the Mama Heinz' crappy old Gulfstream jet something worthwhile like an F-86 or a Hawker Hunter or both.

Cheers Stephanie and "welcome to the jungle"!
