Not my usual thing, but our SAH group went for a tour of the Mothball Naval Reserve Fleet in Suisan Bay CA last Saturday. I don't know ships, so any corrections or additions are expected
Battleship USS Iowa (BB-61) is the main attraction with a group trying to get it brought to Mare Island Shipyards in Vallejo CA as a Museum. More info: www.battleshipiowa.org
To me the second most interesting vessel was the USS Hoga (YT-146), a tugboat that was at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack on Dec. 7th 1941. While there's a group tring to get it for a museum in Florida, it would be nice if it could return to Ford Island at Pearl Harbor for display.
Three of the last Liberty ships at this location
I believe this is the USS Pidgeon ASR 21
USS Fort Fisher (LSD 40)
Unknown to me is an old Liner and an Ice Breaker that is USCGC Glacier (WAGB-4)
Another unknown to me, with a 5 inch gun on the back.
Roger;
Love the ships too! Thanks for posting them. The Iowa sat in Newport , RI for a few years next to the Saratoga and the Forrestal. I hop ethey can preserve her.
