I know there are a lot of gun guys on board here.

For those of you interested in the M1 Garand, keep an eye on the CMP website or the various gun boards.

It looks like the CMP has a shipment of M1 Garands, this will make it one of the last shipments available. If you want one and the price is right, I recomend getting one now. There are only about 2-3 more scources for these left and it takes years to get them in country.

It looks like monday, Aug 6 will be a announcment day.

Rumor mill says 118,000 of 'em? I didn't see where they're supposedly coming from.

If there are collector grades, I am DEFINITELY getting one this time. I missed out on the Greek Collectors, and I kick myself often because of it.

Here is the update from the CMP about the shipment of M1 Garands. Still not much info on how many or were they came from.

LATEST CMP SALES NEWS - 10 August 2007.

M1 GARAND AVAILABILITY. The Army is in process of transferring another large shipment of Garands to the CMP. We expect to complete the transfer in the next few weeks and to begin our Inspection/Repair/Grading process on these rifles before the end of the year. Because of this, we are now again accepting orders for Garands. Initial orders will probably be shipped within 30 days, but customers should expect a 60-120 day delivery time, or possibly longer, depending on the item ordered and the initial flood of orders. M1D and NATIONAL MATCH (NM) GARAND RIFLES NOW AVAILABLE. A limited quantity of M1D and NM Garands are now available for mail order and in-store sales at both the North and South stores. http://www.odcmp.com/Services/Rifles/m1garand.htm.

I heard they were coming from Italy. Believe that's also where the carbines came from.

What do you guys think of the K98 Mausers offered at Mitchell's Mausers?
I've always wanted to pickup a 98 to add to my collection, and thought this might be a way to go, collector grade of course.

Mitchell's is in Orange County and they have some nice stuff. You ought to go pick one out when you come for the Chino show next year. Only about an hour away.


BTW, for you Garand shooters CMP has Greek .30-06 boxed in sealed tins and also .30-06 in clips and bandoleers in sealed tins. Prices are decent and I predict it will never get cheaper.

Took my modified K98 to the range last week....I've added a sling and 40mm scope on a permanent mount. It's sweeeeeeeeet.

Roger, there are lot more historic and cheaper Mausers than the Mitchell's guns. They are very nice rifles but the ones I have seen are all Yugo K98's. A genuine battlefield pickup/Russian captured and re-arsenal Nazi marked K98k can be had for about half of the Mitchell cost.

But you will probably have to leave the airfield to find one...

Just ordered another Garand - makes six, now. Be interested to see if their "Service Grade" is up to par. Haven't been disappointed yet, though. Still have the M-1 I got through the old DCM program - it's still the best, by far.

As far as ammo goes, CMP does have the Greek stuff, and J&G sales has it as well, along with a couple of other flavors. Try to avoid the Taiwan stuff - corrosive. Also check in with AIM surplus periodically as they get some in every now and again.

Century Arms (CAI) is also listing M-1 carbines at $499 and change; origin unknown.

And for you other collectors who don't know about it, get a C&R license ($30 for three years), as it allows you to order stuff directly from dealers. Works for me.

I think that Century uses cast receivers versus the original forgings. Probably shoots OK, but not collectable.

Century's carbines are Inland mfg. You must be thinking of the IMI ones..

Latest dealer email from Century now lists M1 carbines from most all manufacturers, such as Winchester, IBM, Underwood, etc. Prices generally under $600. They will, however have import marks on them somewhere.
