I got this email from a friend of mine. He lives here in Chicagoland. Can anyone offer any suggestions? I am not aware of anyone that offers on the job training, unless it would be doing grunt work.

I am interested in persuing a career in aviation mechanics. and seeing as how you are around pilots, I thought you might have an idea as to how to find a job in thsi field. I know most require and FAA liscense and require school that i have figured out on my own but there are some places who may hire and train. So any ideas on where to go from here? There really aren't any schools in my area that offer the program and I'm not really in a position to quit working full time.

There is one school right there in Chicago, off of Pulaski acording to the FAA website. There is also a program down in Romeoville at Lewis. My brother-in-law got his tickets there. There are a couple of others in the Illinois area, but I've forgotten how far they are from Chicago proper. Your pal needs to do a little more searching and open up his search criterial a little. If he's young enough, join the military and get his tickets there and a bunch of experience in a hurry.

I need to get my tickets, but don't have the time to go back to school right now, until my youngest son gets to be of school age. I've got nearly 30 years experience, but there are some area that my skills are lacking, so it will be the easiest for me to run throuigh the courses rather than rely on my work history when the time comes.
