I haven't been on in quite a while, and found that the user names are listed on the bidder side like this: "e***e." Any insight into why this has happened? Is this further anti-trawler efforts on the part of the company?

I believe they only do that on items that are at a current bid over a certain amount. I the amount appears to be $100. The bidders usually appear as "Bidder 1, Bidder 2" and so on. Only the seller of the item has the list of bidder names.

ebay resorted to the anonymous bidder i.d. to stop people from running up bids against rivals just to cost them more $$$, & to put a lid on shills ( family members & friends etc who run up the bids on the sellers behalf) it's a common practice even at auctions where a bidder is physically present. quite unethical, & many auctioneers EMPLOY!!! these shills so the auctioneer gets a bigger cut of the commission. a gray area that really can't be controlled. i applaud ebay for it's efforts, but there are to many loop holes to find other ways to do this dirty business practice.
