It is Dr. Martin Luther Kings birthday. On Wix we often celebrate pilots and vets who have made their fame in war. Dr. King was as brave as any, but he used the strength of his character for peaceful purpose, even when dealing with enemies as evil as any we face in a war. It is a shame that he didn't get to live a full life and give us the benefit of his leadership. He might have been a tremendous ambassador to troubled parts of the world. He would have been 79 now. I am one of many people raised in the south who look at racial matters differently than people there used to, and this one man is responsible for as much of that change as all else together.

He had great character and was a fine leader, I agree. If only we had more like him, he is one of the greatest Americans that ever lived, regardless of race. I suspect his positions wouldn't have changed with the direction of the wind like with our leaders of today (in both major political parties). He likely wouldn't have spearheaded the move to political correctness or professed a victim mentality for "minorities" either. His loss was a terrible loss to mankind.

Or as some call it - "Lee Jackson" Day.
