Amarillo Texas just blew by the house, and I live NW of Ft. Worth!!! The wind is horrible today, winds steady at 28 mph, gusting to 47 mph. With no rain for awhile it gets a "little" dusty. Visibility is about 1.5 miles. My hair, eyes, teeth, ears, and skin are all gritty. I'm finding all of the air leaks in the house as the dust leaking in is quite visible. Large grass fire about 2 miles north, hope no house is in the way. 33 gusting to 47 now.

You've got at least one huge fire working in Wise county, there are seven major ones in Parker and two big ones in Tarrant in work right now. Every piece of equipment that can be manned is out in Parker County now. We even have county road equipment on a couple of the fires. My department just got toned for wires down a couple of minuets ago. If I didn't have everyone at home sick right now, I'd be on a truck instead of monitoring a radio and doing housework.

I live in Wise county and the fire is about 3 miles north, thats why the visibility is so bad. On the way to work this pm, the vis. improved once I got out of the fire area. Hwy. 114 is closed west of me, and approximately 14 structures where destroyed in Paradise.

I know that part of Wise pretty well. We cut over from FM 730 to I-35 through Boyd and Aurora some of the times we go to my folks place in Denton. We keep meanig to stop and grab a bite to eat there at Tater Junction on a pass though, but usually are pressed for time and blow on through without stopping. I have a friend that has a private strip in Wise, just west of the Denton County line and just south of 380. About 1600' and he keeps a Beech of some sort and an occasional Mustang out there. Loads of fun to go play out there...Airplanes and weapons galore. Haven't been out there in a couple of years to see him. Guess that I need to carve out a little time one weekend and go play again.

Sure could have used some air support on the Markum Ranch fire from what I was hearing on the radios. Crews were trying to work a fast moving 3 mile firefront in deep grass. Had a couple of hundred homes that managed to stay safe on one edge. It's 1930 and I haven't heard any Parker County crews return from that one yet, although I have missed some traffic taking care of the kids and wife. Unfortunately, we appear to be in for it again tomorrow, but with the winds from the south.

Stay safe out there, everybody.

We have the same winds. No grass fires, but ice pellets that will take loose paint and exposed skin off with equal efficacy.

Predicted windchill in the morning is -40 degrees! A guy could lose some important appendages out there.

I just wish Al Gore was here to explain again how we're getting warmer...

I guess ice pellets are worse than sand and dust. I grew up in Minnesota and don't miss the weather one iota. Global freezing??? Watched the news this morning and saw 30-50 degree drops in temperatures.....

Smelled the smoke from burnt houses when I got home last night, I know that smell well as we lost our house to fire two years ago, real sad. I guess ice pellets are worse than sand and dust. I grew up in Minnesota and don't miss the weather one iota. Global freezing??? Watched the news this morning and saw 30-50 degree drops in temperatures.....
