Does anybody here like football? I mean college, not the National Felon League. I went to the Texas vs. Rice game in Austin Sat. night along with about 85,000 other people. Final score, Texas 52, Bird Nerds 10.

WE ARE........ Penn State!!!!
I have been a Nittany Lion fan since I went to school there 30 years ago, and went to the last game of the season, (against Pitt), that took us to the January 1, 1979 Sugar Bowl, when we played Alabama, (coached by Paul "Bear" Bryant)..... and Joe Pa made the infamous three shots up the middle decision from the one yard line, that cost us the game. That was also the year everyone in the sports world said there was no way we could beat Ohio State. I have a picture of Joe and Woody Hayes shaking hands before the game. Woody wouldn't shake Joe's hand after the game.
I LOVE college football, and while my heart belongs to Penn State I have a great deal of affection and respect for a lot of other teams as well.
I only live 30 miles from Penn State and have not been to another live game since 1978! That stadium is just too darn big! It is an awesome sight though. I love the statue of Joe, and the Nittany Lion wind vane above the one end zone.

It used to be that Texas vs. Ark was a big rivalry; now they are playing again and I sure never remember Texas ever being a 4 touchdown favorite in the old days, we'll see this afternoon.

ARMY lost to freakin Texas A&M......arrrrgh! 0-3 for a start....damnit Black Knights!
Anyone catch the USC v. Oregon St?
Sun Sep 28, 2008 8:50 am
Yes, I saw the USC-Oregan State game, and was particularly shocked given how badly Penn State beat up on Oregan State a few weeks ago.
Wow! What a week! That is one of the things I love so much about College Football. You just never know what is going to happen.
I was holding my breath through the first quarter of Penn State-Illinois last night. Having been a fan for as long as I have, I KNOW what a disappointment losing a game that "they" said you were huge favorites in.
Can't wait to see the rankings when they come out later today.

The Ark game was supposed to be on ABC, but it was a regional thing so they showed CU vs FSU here in Colo, and I only saw a few glimpses of the Texas highlights. I was right about one thing, it wasn't 4 touchdowns difference, it was 7. Ark got an early field goal, then nothing until the last 2 minutes when they ran back a fumble by the reserves. I am looking forward to the Texas vs Co game here next Sat.
If Texas really takes Co seriously and plays their best they should win, but Co upset Ok last year when they didn't seem too good. It ain't gonna be like playing Rice.
After Colo comes OK then Missou, etc. The easy road will be over, as Royal used to say, "all the white meats gone, nothing left, but chicken necks.

USC is only #9?!?!

Cripes, I think it has been a long time since Army was considered anywhere near a top football team. I know Air Force is sometimes near the best of the 2nd tier ones, but Army and Navy don't seem to be, as I remember. Most of the best high school players come from Cal, Tex, and Fla. Unless the are from a military family with that traditiion, I think it would be pretty hard to recruit the top guys. I can see trying to tell a Reggie Bush or Vince Young, to come to some place in New York where it is cold in the winter, in order to be treated like they are worthless, wear an ugly haircut, and there are no girls, or only a few, And by the way, you have almost no chance of making it to the pros, or even being on tv against the top teams or playing in a major BCS bowl.

For a minute there I thought you were describing Colorado schools.
