Has anyone here built this replica airplane?

A friend has a project for sale, and the price seems to be really affordable (no engine). Not for me, though.

Fuselage is on the wheels, one wing complete, ready to cover, and all the parts for the other three wings and tail feathers.

I wish I had photos to show!

Saludos,

Tulio

Hey Tulio,

Is the SE5a replica that you're talking about the same as this one?:

Anyways, this one was designed and built by Gogi Goguillot and Dan McGowan. They sold plans and the design seemed to catch on and you can find examples of the type all over the world.

Gogi is no longer with us, but Dan is and I could probably get you in touch with him and he could tell you a bit about the design.

I hope that helps.

Cheers,

David

Yes, that's the one.

He is asking $1,500 for it; I was tempted to purchase it, but I have not place to store it.

Interested? : )

Saludos,

Sounds like a good deal. Apparently it's a fun little airplane.

I too, do not have space for it... :(

Would you like me to check into how easy it is to build for you?

Cheers,

David

Thanks, but no, thanks.

I have my PT-19 project ongoing, and should not take any detours [or deviate funds] from that project.

We have one of those little SE's at the Great War flying Museum in Brampton, Ontario. In fact, the aircraft we have is the sister of the aircraft shown earlier, that one was CF-QGL, ours is CF-QGM. Both built by the same people, we aquired ours sometime in the 70's, and its been flying almost continuously since its first flight in 1970, almost 40 years now! By all accounts its a great, light maintenance and pleasant flying aircraft.

EDIT: Hey Tulio, would it be possible to get the contact info for this guy? Our museum could possibly be interested in the project. Wheres he located?

CF-QGL & CF-QGM were the prototype Replica Plans SE5a’s. CF-QGL is the older of the two (and the oldest in existence) and was built by Dan McGowan, Gogi built CF-QGM.

The Replica Plans SE5A was developed to be simple and inexpensive to build and operate while being easy to fly. Not to mention that it is one of the better looking scaled down SE5A replicas. I’ve heard of people building them for under $10K and have seen fliers sell for in the $10K - $18K range. Depending on the quality of workmanship of the one Tulio’s friend is selling, if it’s good work, $1500 is not a bad deal.
