There are still many items(and bodies) like that to be discovered at Normandy... Many years ago, I spoke with a man who had attacked a machine gun at Utah or Omaha beach(I forget which) and had continued on after silencing it. Apparently it was never found again after it was silenced- when he went back in the 1990s on a veteran's tour, they went to the area he had landed in, and he went to the exact spot(hard to get to as I recall) where the machine gun nest had been, and he'd found the area overgrown. However, he noticed something, and discovered the position was still there- and there were some remains. (They were presumably removed & interred afterward)

Kinda weird the way that happens.
