Yup, profits are down and departmental budgets along with them. The fact that a couple of key airplane programs are behind schedule means delayed production.

A lot of folks are being laid off these days in many industries. And not just in Seattle either.

The thing that hacks me off is that most people think that Boeing workers are fat bloated over paid under worked slackers. Not true! At least not in my department, we are on the ball and have not missed a delivery date yet! Ive been with Boeing for nearly a year and a half and for a second consecutive year we have surpassed 1,000,000,000 man hours with out a lost time injury! Boeing's claim that the strike is the major reason for lay-offs is . They are not recognising the fact that the world economy is in the toilet, if this were not a factor then why did they just have a cancellation of fifteen 787's? Microsoft and Starbucks also announced lay-offs, neither went on strike! We went on strike to preserve lower pay grade jobs more security i.e. retirement health and to get more pay for those who were under the median. So the truth is that the economy of the wold is the major factor for the reductions, yes I'm sure the strike had something to do with it but it is not the whole picture.

Perhaps the strike actually HELPED the company by conserving cash and allowing some behind schedule projects/suppliers to catch up to manufacturing a bit.

That was one theory we had. There were many people saying that there wasn't any titanium fasteners and by allowing the strike meant that Allfast could catch up. Well I've seen thousands of Allfast boxes in the factory, so I guess they are caught up?
