Brunswick NAS

Wed Aug 24, 2005 10:27 pm

I heard on the news to night that NAS Brunswick, the last active duty base in New England, is being closed. BRRRRAAAACCCCCCC, made its decision. Gonna' be a LONG HAUL from JAX to patrol the Great Circle Route. But hey, good quality of life(Read that WARM, and near BIG Cities) Low overhead and less realestate to maintain, will keep use safe from the Axis of Evil! Any of our cousins north of the border know if there are any fighter/patrol aircraft left in the Maritime Provinces(just looking for a little security blanky, seein's as Uncle Sugar don't like us Yankees so much any more!). Any thoughts on this, oh Colonel!?

i don't live in maine........ but the defense dept is jumping feet 1st in the budget cuts, closing bases, etc, i sure don't want mt tax $$$ squandered either, but our borders are like a strainer for spagehetti!!! there is no conceivable way to protect our borders from these murderous terrorist s.o.b.'s who have no respect for life, let alone their own, all in the name of allah. canada & mexico are inundated with places for these maniacs to fly over, walk over etc. let bush walk a border patrol!!! regards, tom

Your right, Tom, with over 3000 miles of coast in Maine, it's definitly "All ashore that's going ashore!" up here. The thing that get's me most is this "all the eggs in one basket" mentality. They close bases to save money, I know, but, the prime realestate these bases are located(not just Maine, all of them) is becoming more and more irreplaceable. Maybe the time of world-wide conflict(WWI/WWII) are past us, I don't know. But, it seems to me that it only takes one smooth-talking crazy and a whole lot of dissatisfied/dissillusioned people to stir up a hornets nest. But once the capacity to build new bases/airfields where we need them is gone(I suppose we COULD just BULLDOZE the homes and businesses that are built on the old runways and piers), it wont come back. But that's just my two cents worth...................

I'll get off the soapbox now
