So my PC is a bit of a mess. I decided to update it a new hardrive (300Gig), DVD-RW and DVD-rom. I had installed window XP a few months ago and things have not been working great. So when I added all this new parts I decide to wipe the system clean and start fresh. But I have yet to figure out how to reformat the hardrive, as in the C: drive.

Can anyone point me in the right direction (other than Apple or a different OP).

The XP cd should be recognized on startup, allowing you to do a new install. If your replacing the drive outright, This should probably happen on startup. If you have added the drive in addition to the current one, and this doesn't happen with the disk in on startup, go into the bios config and set the first boot drive to the cd/dvd player.

Once its going, make sure you read all of the screens that come up. You'll get to a point that will allow you to remove and recreate and reformat the partitions and reload the OS.

WRITE DOWN, and I mean, make sure that you either print or write down the addresses for your disk (landing zone, and all the other addresses) just in case; there are different types of disks identified in your BIOS, and messing with it is interesting, but can also bring lots of trouble. (Yup, I've been there . . .)

I just formatted my hard drive a week ago, but did it from the XP CD, and I do not have an additional disk, like you do.

Good luck!

Saludos,

Tulio

Boot the Computer with the XP disk and when going through the options, it will ask you where you want to install on the partition. The when the question comes up, re-format the hard-drive in the standard NTFS mode, NOT quick mode. This should help speed things up.

However, depending on how much RAM you have for Memory sticks, you might as well, toss everything in the trash if your using less than 512MB of RAM when running windows XP. IMHO.

The more memory you have, the better your off. Also, what is the specs on your machine. Processer, Clock Speed, etc. etc.

After Several Attempts and lots of Fun, I seem to have things back in order.

My computer still has a bit more time before it becomes a Dinosaur; Every so often I put some money into it and keep it from slipping. But I think the last upgrade will be it before I start new.

Thanks for the help.
