What I Was up to This Past Summer

I wish I could have attended many more airshows than I did last summer, but if I had my "honey do" list would still be huge and Catherine would not be very happy with me. :roll:

I spent much of my time last summer putting in a interlocking deck in the back yard with a pergolla (shade roof). I want to show it off to everyone. You can find pictures of it in one of Catherine's webshots albums at...

Had to have a deck first before I could get the BBQ. Hopefully that comes next summer. When the house was built we had them run a natural gas line out to the back just beside the stairs to the rear door, so we are BBQ ready. The BBQ is a definite must.

I should try and build a cooler into the ground at the side of the deck.

Actually you still need to go a bit further north to see moose on a regular basis, but... deer, we have many of those. I have the good fortune to live close enough to work to commute by bicycle. My regular route takes me through the "green belt" (a nature reserve), and usually every 2nd or 3rd day I will come across a deer or two.

Watch that those deer don't eat all your flowers!

We had a coyote run down our street a few weeks ago, followed shortly thereafter by flyers posted for missing cats in the neighborhood... :twisted:

As you can see in the pictures we live in suburbia. The deer don't bother here as they have the large green belt to live in.

We have a few pain in the ass cats in our neighborhood as well. Hmmm... Cayotes eh? :twisted:

Nice job. We plan to put something similar in in the backside of our house sometime, Adding the Kitchen for the Bakery has killed that for a few years.

Asprine, anti-freeze does wonders for cats, if you can't use a 22. :minigun:

When I lived in the country people would let there dogs run and they would kill chickens and scare the livestock . not to mention the strays dumped off, We just shot E'M and nailed the collars to the back of the barn. There were lots of collars there when we moved. around 30 and we probably shot another 30 without collars.

Yeah, I've had that same thing happen to me when my wife brought home two stray kittens a couple years ago. Took years to build up my "don't mess with me image" and but a few weeks for those dang cats to tear it down. Now they won't leave me alone.

Mike, the new deck BBQ area looks nice, although I imagine you loose some sun at some point due (early morning or late afternoon) to that beast of a block house (photo 00790017) next to you............ :partyman:

In terms of square footage we have the smallest house on the block, and it is two floors with a basement. The house you are talking about isn't even the biggest on the block, but does provide some nice shade until about 10 AM in the summer, then you bake until about a 1/2 hour before sun set. Hence the pergolla! Anyway, our small house does mean that we get a bigger yard to play with. Our neigthbours are starting to envy that.

We recently had a double decker go up off our corner behind our house (were renters), fortunately we have a big covered patio to provide some privacy from their eyes. Now if we could only get the fog to go away long enough to enjoy it.............
