I think we all can agree on one thing, it may not be the war in Iraq, but that those who suffer a loose of a loved one in combat should not have to deal with protesters. These people give protester a really bad name, what kind of scum protests at the funeral of he fallen? I guess I gave some people too much credit when I though this just would not happen.

I thought I would share this web site. Here are people who are stepping up to the plate and making a difference. Also to make you aware of what is going on in areas. This was the first time I had heard of this stuff going on.

Yesterday during a phone conversation with my friend Patricia, she mentioned this:

Two days ago (February 02) she was flying back home to OKC, OK from Atlanta, GA.

Upon landing at OKC, one of the flight attendants asked all those on board to recognize a VIP, a basketball player who was in their flight, to join the local NBA team.

Everyone clapped and cheered the sports figure.

My friend says that she got so mad, because sitting close to her in the cheap seats, were two U.S. Servicemen, whom through conversation, had told her that they were coming back home, from Irak.

So she lost it.

She says she stood and called for everyone's attention, and with tears of rage coming down from her eyes, stated that although it was cool to welcome the player, he was only able to play his game, and the people to enjoy it, because of the service and sacrifices made by people like the two guys sitting close by.

She asked for a round of applause, and she began clapping. She was soon joined by everyone.

When she was exiting the airplane, the pilot thanked her for her gesture. The stewardess apologized for her oversight.

She left the airplane without saying a word, because she was so pissed off.

So, when she was retrieving her luggage, the servicemen approached her, asked for her name, shook her hand and thanked her. She says she thanked them, and they parted ways.

She noticed that a limo and entourage were there to pick the sports player, while the servicemen were hailing cabs . . .

This is 100% true, as told to me by my friend.

She clearly stated that she does not agree with many of the things that the Bush administration has been doing in Irak, but still, the support and thanks for the troops are the right thing to do.

Her brother serves with the US Navy in the Irak area.

It always amazes me at the selfishness of protestors. You have people that are typically lower-middle class or better protesting a war that is helping people (especially women) less fortunate than they are achieve the freedoms that they take for granted, not because of the reasons we are at war but purely because its a war. Regardless of the reasons that got the U.S. involved in the area we are trying to do good for the Iraqi people.

This is a touchy subject and can lead to political discussions and flame wars. Please avoid political discussions and at the first sign of anger or flaming this conversation will go away.

I will not be offended in the least bit if this gets removed for going down a road best not traveled here. But I felt everyone should be aware of such things. It was news too me and I tried to post in a manor that might avoid politics’.

Ok, maybe the title was a bit gruff.

Good words Scott.

I have been looking at this thread trying to think of a thoughtful way to add my point in the hopes of promoting constructive discussion with the intention of learning from that discussion, and possibly helping others to learn. However, with the tendancy for flame wars to errupt over recent years, I don't think attempting discussion would do any service to this great community we call WIX. That really is a shame. There is a great diversity of backgrounds and opinions of people on this board. We could really learn from each other. To bad that the tendancy to flame is preventing that free discussion.

Hopefully I am not creating offense here.

Mike

I certainly hope these statements will not set of a fire. I am just trying to point out that the tendancy to flame to some extent has
