Yesterday during a phone conversation with my friend Patricia, she mentioned this:
Two days ago (February 02) she was flying back home to OKC, OK from Atlanta, GA.
Upon landing at OKC, one of the flight attendants asked all those on board to recognize a VIP, a basketball player who was in their flight, to join the local NBA team.
Everyone clapped and cheered the sports figure.
My friend says that she got so mad, because sitting close to her in the cheap seats, were two U.S. Servicemen, whom through conversation, had told her that they were coming back home, from Irak.
So she lost it.
She says she stood and called for everyone's attention, and with tears of rage coming down from her eyes, stated that although it was cool to welcome the player, he was only able to play his game, and the people to enjoy it, because of the service and sacrifices made by people like the two guys sitting close by.
She asked for a round of applause, and she began clapping. She was soon joined by everyone.
When she was exiting the airplane, the pilot thanked her for her gesture. The stewardess apologized for her oversight.
She left the airplane without saying a word, because she was so pissed off.
So, when she was retrieving her luggage, the servicemen approached her, asked for her name, shook her hand and thanked her. She says she thanked them, and they parted ways.
She noticed that a limo and entourage were there to pick the sports player, while the servicemen were hailing cabs . . .
This is 100% true, as told to me by my friend.
She clearly stated that she does not agree with many of the things that the Bush administration has been doing in Irak, but still, the support and thanks for the troops are the right thing to do.
Her brother serves with the US Navy in the Irak area.
