I'm looking to replace my venerable Nikon Coolpix 995, and I'm looking to go Digital SLR. I know the Canon's are supposed to be top shelf, but with the abuse my Nikon has trudged through I've developed some brand loyalty.
That said, my Pentax K1000 will probably still be faithfully snapping pictures long after mankind has been wiped from the earth by a genetically engineered race of super-cockroaches. So when I saw they'd jumped into the digital market, I was intruiged.
The price point for the 6 MP SLR's I'm looking at is within my budget, even if I choose to throw in an additional lens. Here are my questions:
-Does the Nikon suck? (I can't come up with anything better for that.)
-The Pentax feels a bit cheap, like it wouldn't survive much of the 5-year old style abuse I tend to give equipment. Is this the case?
-I've got a handful of lenses for the K1000, is the Pentax using the same ring adapter for these lenses? It's not a huge issue if not. I don't tend to carry a huge assortment of gear.
Aside from all that, the biggest issue I have between cameras is the slow continuous shooting speed of the Pentax vs. the Nikon D50, and the Pentax use of AA batteries.
Suggestions? Comments? Suggestions of snide comments? FWIW I plan on purchasing from Circuit City, so the specific models are listed on their site.
