It looks like my Sister-in-laws and family might be moving to Winslow, Maine in the next year or so, Might. Kelly is a bit sad about this and we've toyed with the idea of a move. Not that there is a chance it would happen but I know there are a few from Maine here.

What the Pro's and Con's of this? After I really hate living in NYS.

Tim the Flat lander

Today we had our business update meeting. Words like "staff reductions" and "off shoring" was used. Joy, it looks like about 10% will walk soon. Most likely very soon.

Tim

So once again, could I find a job in Maine?

You finally found this; I guess that answers the question I posted in the "Main Hanger"

As soon as I get a chance I'll be poking around to see what I can stumble across.

What are the gun laws in the state like? I'm not moving anywhere that I need to unload some of my rifles (M1, M1 Carbine, Mini-14 kind of stuff).

Also what is it like to get a pistol permit in the state? I don't care to carry but would love a something like a 1911.

Tim

Hi Tim
As far as Jobs go what kind of a Woodcutter do you want to be!  Winslow area is faily centrally located, not much more then an hour, or less, to all the major centers(Bangor, Portland, Augusta and Lewiston/Auburn). As far as guns go, this IS Maine-we take our guns and hunting seriously. As long as its legal to buy you are all set. and unless the feds have outlawed it(your M-60 IS a NO-NO!), you can buy it here. No special permits for handguns(unless you plan on concealing one!? ) And we do have the annual machine gun shoot in Dover-Foxcroft. If you have any more questions PM me with your email address and I'll see what I can do.
Don

The axe fell today at work, I'm not bleeding. Looks like I'm employed for a bit longer, which is a good thing! Now I can once again put off trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. I guess my real goal is not to grow up but that is another story more boring than this one.

The best time to look for work is when you don't NEED to. After 5 years of work after university I had experience two closures. I guess I can pick em, but I also could read the writing on the wall and was already off and running when the axe fell. Within a few week I was employed an laughing, and this was before the tech boom and the growing retirements. If you are taking advice Tim, keep looking before another axe falls.

Tim,

Maine, Vermont, and NH seem to have reasonable gun laws, but be careful about even passing through our neighbor to the south. Mass is fanatical about gun control, especially hand guns.
