Has anyone here tried any of the free or low cost web hosting services out there? Any you like? Do you get a domain name with the site?

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

I use Freewebs a good bit. You have to buy a domain name, but GoDaddy is pretty cheap for that. http://www.doolittleraid.com gets a fairly reasonable number of "hits" every day...
