Earlier this year I posted a message indicating I may be developing the website for Vintage Wings in Gatineau. That did not pan out and instead I created my own (www.AerialVisuals.ca).

The web master for Vintage Wings has done a great job, www.vintagewings.ca, but is bogged down in other tasks and has not had the opportunity to take it beyond the home page. I have been charged with putting the content into the site.

So here is the question... What features to you look for in aviation museum websites the most? What do you not like to see in such sites?

I am very much looking forward to your comments. They will form the basis of which tasks I tackle first in the building of the website.

Mike

Do you want to find locations of displayed, stored or active aircraft? Then start with the The Locator.
Do you want to find or contribute to the documented history of an aircraft? If so then start with the Airframes Database.

Personally, I only want two types of information when I check an aircraft collection web site.

1. What's new? (with acquisitions, restorations, the facility, etc.; updated reasonably often and with photos)

2. Which airplanes are going to fly, when, and where?

I don't mind or care what else is on there. If I can't expect the above, I won't visit more than once.

The only thing NOT to put on the site is background music, which makes it awkward to check while at work.

Please no Music, Please. That drives me nuts! If I never hear another electronic version of Top Gun it will be to soon. :vom:

I really enjoy reading the history of the airframes in the collection. It's good to post a general history of the Aircraft type but some of us really want more. 8)

Pictures of the aircraft in service during the war or whenever. Maybe some different paint schemes it’s worn in its life time, or recovery restoration photos.

I agree with a good detailed schedule of airshows with dates and what will be where is very good to post. I’ve found airshows that way in the past or it was a deciding factor in me going to an airshow.

General updates, even as simple as this past month we cleaned the toilets, so come and enjoy

The main things I look for are directions, hours of operation, and a list of the aircraft on display, with or without pictures.
