Looks like he lost his one and only bidder.

wonder if he had visitors from DRMO yet for putting it on Ebay .... I am sure it has raised and eyebrow or 2. Might be more valuable to donate to a museum and take a tax right off.

If all he gets is his opening bid, he's only making 600-odd bucks on the deal. What would be the scrap value of 20K lbs. of Phantom today?

2 new bids. One has somewhat of a bidding history the other has none. hmmmm I sure hope it's not scrappers.

I helped to de-mil several uh-1s here in ohio.

the old process was to "cut" a structural member and then paint the area bright red. Unfortunatly some unscrupulus people aquired a de-miled a/c and sold it as a flier, resulting in a crash.

It was then thought that, from a liability standpoint, it was safer to leave the airframe essentially intact and to remove the data plate.

I remember we FLEW one to a VFW or Legion post here in Ohio and landed it atop its concrete pedestal. The data plate and battery were removed and they got in a POV and left.

The originating/donating agency would have the serial number on its books.

You could also look at the landing gear doors and inside any removable panels as it was a common practice by maintenance crews to write the last three of the tail number on them so as not to mix them up with other panels from a/c in the same area.

Interestingly there is a Bravo model Huey running around down here ( on a trailer) that still has its data plate and was "de-miled" by removing her PC links and replacing them with the fixtures we use to hold them in place whilst making repairs.

Well it sold for 14k and it went to collector.

He's currently restoring a "D" model cockpit. don't know just yet what he has planned for it but it might just be for parts.

I just got done talking with the new owner(for privacy reasons). He plans to restore this F-4 to static and has confirmed the Serial No. as that of F-4C 64-0747.

If anyone knows any of the history of 64-0747 he would really like hear from you. Also if anyone has a mechanic background with F-4s he would also like to hear from you. Just PM me for his email address.

For what he said I think he going to try and do the whole Phantom. If it were me I would. There is too much F-4 not to. But its his airplane.

I don't know where he lives but he siad it was a 300 mile trip to go and see it.

An interseting tid bit, 747 is the sister ship to MIG killer 64-0748 now on display at Langley AFB.
