The biggest giveaway that it's an SBD is the machine gun butts in the cockpit.

I'm at my girlfreind's place right now, but I've got some pics of the CAF Helldiver cockpit at home..I'll try to remember to scan and post them (I really need to get a scanner that does negs.)

Glenn,
I have a two year old print of a website I ran across via PBY@yahoo of a fellow who's collecting phots of US military cockpits.
I don't know if it's still current, I pulled a page out of a binder of interesting stuff that grabs me.
email gacman@hotmail.com and give him a shot.

B-17E "My Gal Sal." I couldn't actually get inside, but there was a ladder next to the copilot's window.

Another from my collection, the Kalamazoo Air Zoo's Hispano Ha-1112 (Spanish-built, Merlin-engined Bf-109.)

Hey Steve, do you volunteer at the Air Zoo? I love their new facility, and the museum is getting better and better everytime I am through.

And this is the ex-Warbird Digest B-25. Thank God for Garmin! Arizona to Indiana was a long haul and that 430 really does a number on navigating!
I know we don't have flight-suits but when we left Marana it was 117, not OK for flight suits.

I have volunteered as a docent in the past, and may go back in the future. Frankly, I find the museum's new "info-tainment" concept a turn-off. Since they quit flying the warbirds (a regrettable necessity due to skyrocketing operating costs) they've focused on simulators and kiddie rides..the airplanes seem to have almost become window dressing.

I understand they have to adapt to the times in order to get the video game generation interested..I guess I'm just an old stick-in-the-mud.

No not a stick in the mud at all. I could do with out the sims, although the B-17 theatre in the Nissen hut was pretty cool, as it gives an example as to why we should honor or veterans. I love the collection, and the new facility it self.
