Spitfire flight

Finally got to fly the Spitifire today after a couple of weeks delay due to either snowy IMC weather, or high winds aloft that made severe turbulence in the lee of the mountains. It was fitting today as the initial flight of the first Spitfire prototype was at Eastleigh airport, Southampton, on March 5, 1936! So it has been 71 years, and I thougth of that while I was flying today. I went from Aspen over to Loveland for service on the prop govenor which has become sluggish. It was a nice day, calm with sun and high thin clouds, it was about 30 min across the mountains at 13,500, and with a few practice rolls and some fly bys, the trip was one hour. I had not flown it in 3 months, but it comes back pretty well. It may not be new, but it stiil has magic for me.

'Bout darn time....Procrastinator....
I been flyfishing ever since ground hog day when summer finally started around these parts....listen every time I go for you and the Spit to come winging over but never hear ya....glad to know you made it down...
By the way...the fishing is great, me and my friend DJ (who you met at Midland) caught 3 browns a piece on Sunday...lemme know if ya wanna join us...

High thin clouds...calm wind...sunshine...in a Spitfire at 13,500? Oh I have slipped the surly bonds...reached out...
I'm sure that poem must run through your mind from time-to-time Bill on days like that? I can't tell you how envious I am, but do appreciate your sharing the ride with us...if only in words and visions of sugar plums dancing in our heads

Hello Bill,
Just looking through my notes yesterday and see that N308WK last flew as No 163 with the Irish Air Corps on 8 September 1961, great to know that it is still flying. I have sent you a PM.

I bet the Spit would be a much better aircraft with an R-2800 instead of the Merlin......
