Lots of volunteers showed up Saturday ready to work!
The weather has been nice...
BIG FLAP over FLAPS
My current project is cleaning the flaps for NDT inspection. A precautionary tale. One of the A&Ps got to peeking and poking and decided to disassemble a flap transmission case (There are ten of 'em, and apologies if I'm calling it by the incorrect name...) The original 1945 grease had turned to candle wax. And the box had been dutifully re-greased over the years, because you could see the different colors of grease that went in on top of the old candle wax. So ALL ten have been removed and serviced. GOOD THING TOO! Because it turns out that two of the drive-shafts were about to shear their final rivets. WHEREAS a healthy shaft has ten rivets holding them in place, the picture shows where only a couple per side were still hanging on. And probably for not too many more cycles!
But she's being fixed!
CONTROL FREAKS!
Other good stuff going on was the control team replaced one of the engine control pulley brackets with new pulleys AND an entire new bracket. The inter-grannular corrosion was fierce. I haven't developed those photos, but I have some good stuff to post today.
SPARE PARTS?
I am handling spares disposal/fund raising

and I have pictures of the four extra tail-gunners doors (never been on a plane!) The power quad and one set of rudder pedals we will be finding a happy home for soon.
We need to rob the friction locks off the quadrant because TR's are shot!
Enough for this pass... Let me know if you are:
A. Interested in further reports
B. Wondering how YOU can help
C. Where to send ALL your money
Good Hunting,
