I've got photos of the Yanks N3Ns. PM me if you need them.

Here's a few pics of MAAM's N3N. My photo-skills are pretty limited to point and shoot...

While out at the Michigan Show 2006 with the B-25, we met an N3N pilot/owner. I think his name was (Bill Hirzel?) The latest issue of Warbird International has an article on him and his airplane. I haven't gotten the chance to read it yet, but the pictures looked good! Anyway, he had a list of about 4 pages of N3N projects ranging in price. His display at Michigan (floats, skis, separate set of gear with original wheels/tires/brakes, etc) was really beyond your typical airshow set up for an aircraft of this size and type. He was a super nice guy and would be a excellent lead/consultant on any new project.

Thanks August, YOU GOT IT. I will do that for ya tomorrow. I know all those airplanes. The 1st Coast guard airplane is the old Bob Van Vranken airplane. In the 80's he did a round the US tour with it. Our EAA group here in VT hosted him and stayed with one of our members. He overnighted in our back yard with the N and was parked next to ours. That evening we did a little flight together. Was neat for us to fly around with another N. Rare too, cause back then, there was less than 50 still flying.

Heres one taken in Santiago Chile in the early 80's by my father.

Hey Jeff, I am glad that I was able to help. I can take more pics as the project goes forward. Also, I am just now starting to realize that the N3N is not the same as a stearman, like I used to think.

Thu Mar 22, 2007 7:18 pm

Nope not even close! If you want a bi-plane that will do decent aerobatics thats ww2, then the Stearman is your bird. But if you want a tough rugged flyer thats faster, then you need a N3N.

Big features,
No wood!
Big Effective rudder
4 ailerons for control.

Cool, I haven't seen N933R in a long time. Is it still in that orange scheme?

Thu Mar 22, 2007 11:34 pm

Yeah, I am new to the Stearman and N3N world

I kind of like the looks of this one with the turtledeck, wheel pants, and pressure cowl. :)
