My first warbird . . . kinda

Just met Steven Dennis, who delivered to me my very first airplane ever!
I am now the proud owner of a PT-19A fuselage project, that will be eventually brought back into flying, with lots of time and money, some time in the mid-term future.
If I manage to make it to that point, upon completion this airplane will be painted in the markings of a PT-19 that saw service with the Guatemalan Air Force back in the mid 1940s.
It was nice meeting Steve and his brother David, who are right now, headed to St. Louis and then to Chicago, delivering some B-17 parts; they are also carrying a partial PT-26 fuselage.

Congratulations Tulio... I wish you as much fun as can be imagined. There is nothing which compares to working on a vintage aeroplane!

PS. Excellent idea on the markings... it's always great to have more variety than the usual home-growns. Saw a Portuguese Airforce chipmunk at the Manassas show yesterday, which was a nice surprise to the usual RAF/RCAF markings.

Congrats Tulio!
Glad to hear that the Dennis boys have managed to keep the rig on the road and will be returning to God's country shortly.
Now get out to the shop and start getting that Fairchild back where it belongs. I'm guessing that the rest of us should keep our eyes open for any gently-used Cornell center sections, right?

This is my 50th birthday present to myself, and I am very much aware of how long it will probably take to complete the ground up restoration.
Yes, I will need engine, prop, instruments, seats, wings, tailfeathers, and so on and so forth, but the way things work for me is, I will buy little by little, what I can afford. When I make it back home, I am joining the local EAA chapter, and I will learn how to cover surfaces with fabric. I have lots and lots of sanding, cleaning, polishing, priming and paining ahead of me.
Scott, you don't have to feel envy; talk to Steve and I am sure that he will give you the opportunity to purchase a project that you can afford. Remember that I am not swimming in money, so if I can afford it, so can you, more so since you New England Clamchowderners HAVE money.

Congratulations on acquiring the PT-19 project mate. Unfortunately we don't have any PT's down here in Oz, but the PT-19 seems to be a nice kite. Best of luck with the restoration effort and if I can ever help out in some way, shape or form then please don't hesitate to ask.

Yes, we made the trip back just fine, 10 states in 96 hours. Boy, we logged some serious windshield time there, but it was a joy to bring your new baby down to you.
Scott, Dave will post some pics of Tulio and his new project soon, (I think he might still be sleeping, I'll have to give him a call and wake him up!)

Wow...I'm over the moon (vicariously) about this! Congratulations. As you'll know, many Cornells were used in Canada (PT-26s, built here under licence), and many bits from these remain...just in the past month or two I've seen a couple fuselage frames, a couple outer wing panels, and (I think) an elevator, in a private collection here. Will keep an eye open for available Cornell stuff with your PT-19 in mind.
I'm still grinning...sure, it isn't a P-51 in your bedroom , but it's a dream-come-true regardless what TYPE of a piece of history you've got. Way, way cool...

Hello All,
Sorry it took me so long. I just woke up from my deep hibernation after that long trip . First let me say once again Congratulations to Tulio on his new bird. Best of luck to you. You are going to have a ton of fun getting to know everything about the PT's. I am really happy to see another PT go to a great home. It was great to meet you Tulio and I am sorry that we had to run off so quick. I am hoping that next time we meet that we will have a better chance to sit and chat and maybe have some Texas BBQ.
If everyone is interested I have posted pics on my Webshots account under the "Warbird Delivery Service"
album. As Steve stated before Tulio that is a very complete and very good looking frame. I also have never personally seen a frame as complete as that. Can you say MINT!!!
Also if any of you are interested to see what B-17 wheels look like in the back of a Chev you might have a look. Lets just say we had great traction on the way back home. I hope that you all enjoy!
P.S. Steve T. we here in Wisconsin also take a great liking in the PT-26's because of our beautiful weather. The canopy sure beats having to put it away for our 9 MONTH winter.
