How far in advance were the NOTAMs issued? In recent years they've had a bit of a habbit of issuing TFR NOTAMs quite late, in a number of cases you could have checked with your FSS, only to have the NOTAM issued after you already have air under your wheels. If there was plenty of notice, throw the book at him, people ought to know better by now.

you ought to try something which was in our local newspaper here the other day. apparently some brilliant person has decided that since there is the requisite number of flights into and out of our main airport the new cut price local carrier would and should and has applied to bring it's flights into and out of our local air force base.

now, considering how terrorism is these days, can't you just imagine some nasty terrorist rubbing his hands and thinking " you marvelous people! an invitation right into the main base which handles all the maintenance and support and training and off duty P3 aircraft for the country! "

Sort of makes a mockery of the nice new " No photography of or over this site is permitted by unauthorised persons " signs which have sprung into being all the way round the base ( even facing the houses across the road from the base which look straight across the runaways at the ramp ). Afterall, why bother taking photos when you can, if you work it right, go for a wander of the actual base?

So here in SE WI I was working in the yard and happened to have be
listening to traffic for UES (krites) right after the airport opened back up
after a recent Bush gathering. It turns out the prez left waukesha and
was taking his bus up N towards fon du lac & oshkosh area. Jets and helos had been heard in the area and you knew who they were.

So along comes someone transitioning the airspace who hasn't done his
homework... talks to the tower late.. mis identifies his position until the
guy in the tower is confused and has him ident... so after a few seconds of pause,

you hear " N**** turn a 180"

N**** replies "waukesha tower , N***** excuse me, please repeat..."

waukesha tower: " N****, I repeat turn 180, RIGHT NOW!"

a confused N****: "waukesha....."

waukesha tower: "N****, unless you want a pair of F-16's on your ass turn a 180 right now.. repeat NOW. Contact approach 128.7"

a few minutes pass...

N**** comes back online: "Waukesha tower, N****"

tower: "go ahead N*****"

a very meek sounding pilot says " ahhh waukesha ahhh thanks for that
little warning there, you just saved me a bundle. "

tower: " roger that N*****"

(hh pulls himself up from laughing so hard.. almost fell off the pier..)
(have to be careful, it can happen to the best of us... especially lately.)
