I don't know if the b-36 will be open , but castle does have an open cockpit day. Its coming up on May 27th......I am going with camera in hand. When I visited there last, each aircraft has a volenteer assigned to it. So the kc97 and the Convair hc-131 was open to walk thru.

The Castle AM B36 is usually open during their Open Cockpit Sunday. I went last year (all the way there from Beantown, MA) and, while you could go into & through a lot of the B36 forward fuselage, you could not climb ALL the way up to the pilot & co-pilot level.
However, if you can, GO to that Open Cockpit Sunday and talk with the m-a-n-y veterans who volunteer there, many sitting in or near "their" a/c. My wife even enjoyed it. A great educational opportunity and a wonderful way to spend a Sunday!

They are huge, but walking around the one in Dayton and looking at the A Bombs next to it Lock & Load... Lynn
When I was touring the restoration hangars last winter, the guide showed us one of the big nukes they were refurbishing..she said there was some nervous laughter when they realized that it didn't have the required "inert" stencilled anywhere..
I asked if they were going to make it historically accurate..with a mannequin of Slim Pickens straddling it waving a Stetson!

When I was a lad I remember my Dad pointing to a B-36 flying over the house. Funny thing is I don't remember the airplane but I remember my Dad pointing it out.... crazy huh?

I love the B-36. My favorite "big" stick of all time. Sure the B-29 was big, but the B-36 will make the B-29 look like a Cessna!

Phantom1200,
There are four complete B-36's remaining--the RB-36 at Castle and three B-36J's at Pima, Omaha, and Wright-Patterson. The XC-99 transport version is being moved to Wright-Patterson for eventual restoration, and a large part of the YB-36 is part of Walter Soplata's collection.
