It's called a Fiat G-59 I believe -- a post war fighter-trainer adaption of the WW-2 G-55 fighter. This very rare bird was restored by the Sanders boys for the late Guido Zuccoli from Australia, with a Merlin. They got it done just before Reno and Guido wanted to take it up and run it on the race course before crating it up to take back to OZ.

Guido seemed to thoroughly enjoy himself.

So just another average astonishing project from Dennis and Brian Sanders. Truly amazing people...

Very cool tug, too. A bit heavy and too stock, though, to do well in the annual Reno Tug Races -- didn't do well against the supermodifieds.

That's Maloney in the first two photos, Steve in the 3rd photo and Fred in front of the Fiat. I think it was Dennis or Brian Sanders flying the Fiat.

There are a lot of characters in aviation, and a lot of good pilots and some good guys, But Fred Sebby would rank up there in the top 5 of all the characters I have known. Some of the color went out of aviation when Fred left. My first time meeting him was at Pueblo, Co at an airshow sitting on the ramp, watching grey skies and IMC weather. Above the overcast comes the sound of a Merlin; then a little later the pop pop pop as it goes to idle. then a P-51 taxis in, and a tall blond guy in shorts and a t shirt gets out. He introduced himself, and when I asked Fred how he got in when there was no clear sky around for miles, he said,"Oh I found a hole". I don''t think the panel even had much in the way of IFR instruments. Fun followed Fred like sweet on honey, and he left way too soon.

Nothing new, but I wanted to move this thread up to show the photo of Fred Sebby to Bill Greenwood. This seemed easier and quicker than trying to direct him to something that was practically an archive already. This thread had gotten to page 6 in less than 3 weeks -- we are getting a lot of posts and threads these days!
