Man, I find it hard to believe that nobody has roped the airplane off, put up warning signs, or anything. I realize that none of those actions will keep folks away from the airplane (trust me on that one, I see it everyday here in the museum), but still.
The pilot of the airplane did a great job getting it down safely and in relatively good shape. It would just be a shame to see it get damaged worse by folks just taking what they want as souveneirs (again...I see that here often as well
). I hope they get it out of there soon.

I was thinking the same thing, Gary. It's a shame that people can get right up to it and do what they will. I hope they get it out of there soon.

If I remember correctly, and I really don’t care to watch it again, The reporter said in the beginning that there was a guard at the aircraft in the first part of his "report". But that was most likely after several hours at the mercy of the beach morons.

It looks like a fine landing under the circumstances.Thank God nobody was hurt.As to the "Expert Reporting" from TV's Nit-Witness News types,I have an example that still has me shaking my head.When the mid-air between the PSA 727 and the C-172 occurred in San Diego in 1978,I happened to be at the CDF Tanker Base in Santa Rosa on my first B-17 left seat tanker assignment.
I watched the 5 o'clock news on one of the San Francisco stations at the base.The female news anchor had a plastic flight hood used for instrument training that she had borrowed from the local FBO.She told her male co-anchor that she could understand how the little airplane ran into the big one because you couldn't see a thing with the hood on.She had it on backwards and was trying to see through the adjustment holes in the strap.That was when I first realized that the news people are probably just as ignorant on any given subject.I once heard that the definition of an "Expert" is:"Someone from somewhere else".That's usually all too true.

We had a news reporter come out to film some of our helicopters, and when they put the antenna up on the news truck, they extended it right into power lines and shocked the whole news crew. They all got rides in our helicopters then.

I have a law enforcement background...If you think the TV and press media can screw up aviation facts, don't even guess how they screw up their facts and reporting of incidents of those who protect and serve us every day.

On the east side of Camarillo Airport, there is a secure, enclosed area, with two large hangers, of numerous restored T-28 aircraft. I am not that familiar with who they are or what they do, but they have several T-28s and usually fly them in pairs. This may have been one of their planes.

I worked my way through college as a (still) photographer, and then spent 3 years with AP (before I realized that money, not Bernoulli, is the reason planes fly, and professional photographers therefore don't own airplanes). So, I was around TV types quite a bit.
I hope I don't offend anyone here, but the TV anchors and news-bots are one of the lowest forms of life on earth. Not a single one of their mouths are connected to the brain, often because the brain is missing. All of the women have slept their way up, and all of the men have blackmailed their way up. The much-admired sportscasters are just as bad; one year at the post-game celebration at the college world series a well-known sportscaster punched me in the stomach and then stepped on my back as climbed over me to get his mic in. Needless to say, I haven't watched ESPN since.
When I watched the Will Ferrell flick "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy", I didn't laugh. A friend asked why not, and I said "isn't it a real-life documentary?".
But anyway, looks like the pilot did a great job with the T-28 as well. I have to wonder though, even considered the number of T-28s out there, and the amount they probably fly (10,000 hrs a year for the fleet?), do they have a higher than average (for warbirds) engine failure rate? I think I've heard of 10 failures in the last few years.

According to this morning's Ventura County Star:
"The plane was removed from the sand Wednesday. A private aircraft recovery service pulled the plane off the sand with a bulldozer (?) and used a crane to suspend it over the street so the fuel could be drained.
Next the wings will be removed from the fuselage, and the aircraft will be trucked to Pearblossom for repairs.
It nearly missed a fisherman and came to rest about 10 yards from the surf.
The pilot was identified as Somis resident Ed Hotelling...his passenger has not been identified. Neither were injured. Hotelling did not return a call on Wednesday seeking comment."

Camarillo is home to C & J. They do warbird and corporate aircraft sales and sort of specialize in T-28's. Just inland from Oxnard and the beach where the aircraft landed.
Glad to see everyone is ok. Possesions can be repaired/replaced.
The news media
There are but a few subjects in this world that I know a lot about. There are several more I know a little about and a whole world of subjects I know nothing about. When I see a news report on a subject I know about and it is horribly butchered it always makes me wonder. When they are telling me about something I know nothing about how much of that is really wrong?
