Aircraft in a barn...

A couple of teasers for you. These photos were taken over ten years ago, but the barn and the aircraft are still there.

Yes, the fuselage in the foreground of the first photo is wood, so no prizes for guessing that one.

My question is what is in the foreground of the second photo, under the tarp?

Not a P-39, it seems like the canopy is a sliding one.

P-40 maybe?

Are these pictures from the guy that has the Mosquito down in NZ? If they are , then I would guess it's a P-40 under the tarp.

These are two photos of the same aircraft. Gotta rush away, but will tell the story tonight NZDT - I'm guessing it's old news to most people here, but it's kinda nice to remember that just sometimes, the stories are true, and that this is what it looks like as your eyes adjust to the gloom.

I still have dreams like this, thought I'd share the burden...

It was either that or she would be number of pots and pans or aluminum siding. I know what my preference would have been neither, but at least she's still around.

The Mustang is similarly chopped, but at least it was outboard of the main gear.

Here's my guess.
A few years back I cooresponded with a chap in NZ who had a fondness for P-40s and owned a couple plus other types. This looks like his P-40M same camoflage markings. His name was John Chambers.

I was in that barn during April this year. Isat in the wooden aircrafts pilot seat for about an hour just marvelling at how original it was. My photos are very similar as their is not much room in there (you have to crawl at times to get ,round the a/c). In the shed are;
1 x mossie
2 x p-40 (1 with cut wings and one with the wings removed correctly)
1 x P-51d
2 x T-6
2-3 x Vampire
1 x Hudson
+ lots of junk

This is all I am going to say as the owner did say he did not want any publicity, sorry to tease.

This guy was considered crazy by everyone, including the RNZAF when he towed a bunch of war surplus aircraft to his place in the late forties. He has since had the Air Force Museum demanding he give 'their' airplanes back, and several multi- million dollar offers for his aircraft. The Mossie is capable of engine runs and one of the P-40s is a very historic NZ aircraft ' Gloria Lyons'. He is not J. Chambers

Dave and Hairy's comments have reminded me of an obligation taken more than a decade ago, and so I must be more circumspect in my comments. Sorry, but I won't be posting anymore of the photos publicly, even tho with a little detective work, people can find out who the aircraft belong to. I came across the photos during in a cleanup, and posted them before thinking too hard about it. My apologies to the person involved. Suffice to say that the collection is real, and the Mosquito is quite glorious - I would guess the most complete non restored example in the world.
