Had an old Air Classics mag with the story on the filming and the aircraft. Tallman said that if the lead plane had blown a tire on take off the fire would still be burning down in Mexico!

Speaking of Mexico, I wonder if that Mitchell they burned for the crash landing scene is still buried there. Apparently that plane was the only one the bought in Mexico and never flew it.

Who wants to go to mexico and dig for bomber parts?

Frank Tallman did all the L-5 flying, Sam Taber ownes it now and he is an advertiser in our magazine, NATA Skylines. I saw it at OSH last year. Frank did that shot 4 times and on the last he got the hand of the dummy catch in the elevator, bought it back with no pitch control.

Must have been interesting for Martin Balsam, playing both Colonel Cathcart and Admiral Kimmel in the same year!
