Are any A-3 Whales or A6 intruder in rebuild to fly as a civil warbirds? if not why not :) they are the USN creme la creme deluxe of the modern era and should.....be seen

How many A-4 Skyhawks are flying or nearing?

How many USN F-4 Phantoms may ever fly?

MY stupid keyboard locked up and I rebooted the PC, I noticed that the $ was a crap load on the thing. Sorry about that.

The response I meant to say was that $$$ is the reason why A-6 Intruders are not flown by private people.

I vaguely remember reading an article (I think it was in Air & Space) back when the Intruders were being retired. The article talked about how they were being scrapped. One point mentioned that some were being sunk for use as artificial reefs.

The main point of the article though was how a young man was pretty much begging the navy for one to put in his yard  I believe his logic was that if they were being shredded and sunk, why not let him have one to put in his yard and play with.

As far as airworthy A-6's I think they will fall into the same category as other "modern" warbirds like the B-36, F-105, etc, and face too much red tape.

Why dosent the USN tell the truth. They arent making a reef. They are just preserving the A-6's for future generations by putting them into long term storage. It worked very well for the TBD's...
