Confusing day

Thu Aug 23, 2007 3:37 pm

Greetings All, ... just returned from a long trip, a little sad today, In my hotel room last night I watched a documentary call "why we fight" ... probably a little left wing or even a little right wing, depending on who you are, but the point for me was this, I LOVE warbirds !... I HATE war!!!. 1939 to 1945 seemed to be clear cut for the most part ... every war after that seemed clouded, distorted, confusing and deceiving. And war now seems even more confusing. I'll never, ever, ever vote for war. War is death and distruction, nothing ever good comes from war. It's really that simple. We all know that. War is a cowards way of solving problems. Sorry if I offend anyone, but that's how I feel. Cowards start wars, hero's fight and end wars. HERO'S FIGHT AND DIE AND LIVE AND END WARS!!!! PERIOD!!!!

My point again is this .... how can I love warbirds knowing that the only purpose that these airplanes exist or existed was for killing and destroying?. I look at modern military aircraft and I really don't feel good about how they look anymore. It has NOTHING to do with the love of my country or the brave folks who are fighting in Iraq, their doing their duty and ALL OF THEM are more brave than I could ever be, both current and past warriors. But I just HATE this war. I see no end in sight, I see hatred in so many countries towards the US. I see more terrible death and destruction all day, everyday. .... ugh!!!

I just came back from Europe and the hatred towards this war is unbelieveable, NOT BY ALL remember, but by many. You can't hide from it. .....

Anyway, I look at a P-51 mustang, ... :D .... I love the look, always have, but today, I think I'll have to look at something else, maybe a hike in the mountains. Clear my mind. Actually maybe if I hike to the top and in the distance I hear a rolls royce engine and out of the blue my be-loved mustang flys over me and tips the wings, says hi, .... :D ... maybe I'll see something else other than the ugliness of war in my mind.

Someone cheer me up ...

You live in a country where you can openly criticize your leaders without fear of retribution or death. 8)

What Django said...

If you feel so bad about our country think about all the others and ask yourself which one is better than the one you live in now? Is there opportunity in those other countries like there is in yours? What caste system do you want to live in? What ruling class do you want to belong to?

And before you bemoan what we have done "too" the rest of the world...ask yourself what other country in the world is innocent of doing the same thing?

The ever so peaceful French tried to take over the world at one time...the Germans, the English...heck all of Europe has spewed death and destruction on others at one time or another....Find me another Asian country that is blameless...We killed our own people in petty wars over natural resources...BEFORE the Europeans came ashore....

Get on with life. Be happy that you can pursue happiness and not have to fear a death squad coming to your door just for the way you look, speak or worship.

No, didn't have to ask since cutting hair requires a lot of bending and reaching. I think I just cheered myself up. Time for another haircut anyway.

To me WW2 warbirds represent an era in history where things could be viewed in black and white. 200 million people being subjected to military rule against their will while 6 million people were put to death as part of an industrial process of extermination.

The fight to set Europe free has a moral justification which very few, even today, can argue with.

I love airplanes of all sorts, but warbirds represent that fight for freedom and they are one reason why I'm able to write the message today.

If we forget the lessons of history that warbirds represent, we are doomed to repeat the same mistakes again.

Of which most of the world knew NOTHING about. The world was at war not because of concentration camps, but because of agression by the Germans towards their neighbors and their desire to rule the world. No on knew what was going on with the Jews and other "undesirables" within their country, just as most people weren't aware that Stalin was as much or more of a genocidal murderer than Hitler until years later.

We have the benefit of hindsight when we look back on WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, but the funny thing is, I talk to my grandfather who was just reaching military age at the end of WWII and he said that today and then are very similar. Most of our country didn't know why we were there. But unlike now, the people TRUSTED our leaders to do what was right and figured that if they believed that it was good enough to risk their own children in the fight, then it was good enough for them. However, late in the war (late 1944 on) there were protests about how long the war was taking and people tired of all of the fighting and killing.

The difference between then and now? They saw news reels once a day (maybe twice). We see news blurbs 24/7/365. One difference though. The news reels put out the good news. Today, they ignore it and only concentrate on what isn't working in the face of a lot of stuff that is working.

I think what we have here is a "Closet Conservative". Scared to come out. Don't worry the world is good, because of the freedom, that you can that us vets for. Peace can only come from strength. The same reason we have police and law, is to have strength to combat the unruly that want to take over, or take your stuff. You don't think we should get rid of the police do you? Even the Swiss have police and a military.

Since you came from Europe, try a halfway state like California, then over to say, Arizona. Eventually you'll fit in with us southerners. You can even get a handgun permit here in Texas. And be ready to defend yourself. I have the freedom to carry a gun and feel a little safer.
It's really ok. We will welcome you and help in any way. :D :D

Homer Simpson, "mmmmm.....boob....jobs..."

A beautiful buxom girl goes to the doctor, large breasts a nuisance, to ask him to reduce their size. The doctor has her remove her shirt and brassiere, to do a proper examination. The doctor carefully considers his response. He looks her straight in the eye and says, "Well to start, I'm going to have to numb them up."

He then takes off his glasses, places his face squarely between her breasts, shakes his head side to side, and chants, "NUM-NUM-NUM-NUM-NUM-NUM-NUM-NUM-NUM-NUM....!"

Thu Aug 23, 2007 5:04 pm

lolol ... CAREFUL HOW YOU READ MY POST!!!!! .... I like the responses, great debate ... but be very careful, I said nothing about dislike towards my country. I just HATE war and cowards who start wars, you take it anyway you want. Hard to disagree with that.

Now what's the address of that boober shop? ... lolol

Maybe all you need is to light some candles, sit in a warm bubble bath and have a good cry. Go crazy, paint your nails. You'll feel better tomorrow. :D

:) Yeah, there are several of us in TX that would do so! War exists because of sin, and as long as there is sin in the world, good people will need to protect truth, goodness, and defend the defenseless. The problem is that we are fallible, and don't always see things clearly, or know all of the facts, and sometimes make a wrong judgment that makes things worse. :( I personally think that there were deeper issues in Iraq, but I'm willing to give some measure of the benefit of the doubt for the sake of discussion.
A LOT of us ARE tired with the way this war is going, and wish it could all just be over. I wasn't for it from the beginning (on different grounds than most - it wasn't declared Constitutionally, and I don't view UN resolutions as a proper basis for our justification for going to war), but I don't know that any of the current alternatives are any better than the current track. I guess you could pull out, but that wouldn't do the Iraqis any good - unless you just let them fight it out and figure their own way out of the mess. Even if we pull out and admit that we were wrong, doesn't an admission of wrongdoing infer that we should make the wrong right?
How do you make restitution? Any process of trying to rebuild the mess we've made worse (it was already a mess before we attacked) pretty much requires some sort of military presence in order to protect those rebuilding since there are so many thugs over there...

I dunno. What I do know is that God is in control of the mess, He will eventually bring ALL to justice, and TRUTH will triumph in the end. That's where I find my comfort.
