By the way, right there in Glenview is the old main terminal of NAS Glenview, also known as "Hangar One". As I understand it, it is now a mall

with a small display and museum honoring the naval history of the base. During the WWII, most of our carrier pilots trained there, including former President George H. Bush. NAS Glenview was the base from which pilots flew out to the paddlewheel carriers USS Sable and USS Wolverine to practice carrier landings and takeoffs. I have fond memories of the base as a kid, when my Dad would take us to the yearly airshows there--first place I ever saw an F-4 Phantom, A-4 Skyhawks, Avro Vulcan bombers...lots of other great planes and helos. It's also where I signed into the Navy back in '75. Unfortunately, they decommissioned the base in the 90's and erased the runways and now the base is a planned community...with only "Hangar One" left to show what it once was

Don't know if it's worth your time, but perhaps a short visit there might be cool...and then you're also not too far from
94th Aero Squadron restaurant at Palwaukee Airport for lunch and plane gawking
Oh yeah, one other place you might want to check-out is the
"Air Classics Museum" at the Aurora Municipal Airport in Sugar Grove. I've not been there yet, but I guess it's a small privately owned warbird museum with a few planes. My buddy tells me to call them first though, as I guess he's been there but no one was around and the place wasn't open at the time.
