Here's another questions for all those Eagle Eyed WIX'ers.

What type of aircraft is this? I can't seem to figure it out by looking at the windshield and guns. Looks different thatn the Corsair's and Seahawk's

My bet is an F7F-3N; if it was a Corsair or Hellcat, you'd have to be looking back to see the cockpit, especially the Corsair. Also, unless the photographer adjusted for it, the angle does not suggest a tail-sitter.

The big question, though, is why is the pilot giving the photog such an admonishing look? Is it the "never take a photo of the pilot before a mission" superstition, or perhaps beans in the mess hall?

Any photos in the collection of the F6F-5P camera installation or any of the other fighters modified with a side-looking camera? Grumman doesn't have any as it was a post-delivery modification...

These pics are really great. I can't believe how sharp and in focus they seem to be. ALso really like all the stuff in the backgrounds; the jeeps, ground equipment, signage, etc. Lots more interesting with all the right stuff laying around.

I like the big pictures as well. You can spend a long time looking in the background to get a feeling of daily life. Maybe if sweet talk Rob he'll post the remaining 168 pictures.

Until then I found that Joe's son Matt has uploaded the remainder of the CASU-1 pictures as well as lots of others that Joe took onto Flickr. The only draw back is that Flickr the pictures are smaller. But what can you do.

There is also bonus pictures of a B-17G in Illinois in 1948......any guess to it's identity and eventual fate?
