Twin-finned, longer-span development of the F-5.

Some video here. http://www.metacafe.com/watch/256431/ir ... s_service/

It is basically an F-5, with twin vertical tails. 1960s technology with a facelift.

Any decent F-16 pilot ought to be able to wipe them from the skies.

Any F-15 or F-22 pilot would probably be insulted if asked to fight one.

Note the F-5 has the chase plane.
It looks like they put the *ss end off the YF-18 and bolted it on
a F-5. Boy...that's cutting edge technology.

I'm sure it'll be a satisfying airplane to flame just the same.

I've seen it before, actually its not an F-5 variation, its really a BD-10 jet on steroids. I wondered where those went to.

As far as building an "advanced" jet is concerned, its as dated as the name (which we used on the P-38 almost 70 years ago and our British friends used on what was probably a better jet, their Lightning, in the 1950's).

I'm guessing the Raptor pilots will be calling it EASYKILL or something like that.

Of course if you lived in Iran, it would look like the govt accomplished something.

I think that plane is one small step for aeronautics but one giant leap for a country. They've just joined a pretty exclusive club. Of what use is it?...of what use is a newborn?

I'd said they'd be more like ROADKILL :minigun:

Now if we can just get "Mock Mood Armageddon Jihad', (which is Farsi for Hitler-like) to test fly it.......

Hard to tell but even the script on the nose looks the same!

They claim that it only "resembles" the F18, but performs better. Lol...

Hey, look at the positive side, maybe our govt. will get its head out of its collective ass and quit chasing every vintage jet powered plane on a stick so they can re-"de mill" it and leave us some examples to see flying.

True story. THe F-86 and Mig 15 were placed against eachother in an air demonstration at some airshow in Russia. The F-86 waxes the tail of the Mig everytime. What do the Russian newspapers say the next day? "Mig 15 places second in air demonstration while American fighter comes in second to last."

Honestly, that is kinda sad. I don't mean to insult Iran, because I know a bunch of Iranians (now living in Canada) and they are really great people, but for some reason their government is kinda dumb.

It is hard to believe them when they call it an advanced fighter. Maybe for their country it is, but a friend of mine used to fly for the Iranian Air Force during the Iran/Iraq war and at the time he was flying the single tailed version.

Cheers,

David

I seem to recall Randy H. on another thread mentioning that the fighter pilots he knows know better than to blow anybody off. A MIG 17 could still kill an F-4 on a bad day. Despite it being based on older technology, it's interesting that they've figured out how to build the stuff - and that's a good step towards building more advanced aircraft in the future.
Oh, and while I strongly disagree with their ideology and policy, I find the Iranians very clever folks, and much smarter than we give them credit for.
My question would be whether or not some US company could sue them for some copyright violations if it is indeed based on the F-5...
