Is the color actually the zinc-chromate primer below? Looks to me like the decal took some of the top layer of paint with it when it finally came off.

Great pics, and I as well would like to hear that recording.

The Heritage Flight Museums AD4-NA Skyraider had these things all over the place when we prepped it for the new paint job. Several layers of them in places, all in French; left over from it's days in Africa.

I love it....those Vought guys, my grandfather included, were a bunch of sneaky bastards.....but we needed BOTH designs to win the war in the pacific.

Actually "Goodyear Factory Fresh". 8) Those look to be FG-1A's with the deleted tailhook, manually folding wings, etc built for dedicated land base use.

Any chance you can read the Bureau Number on the original print (BuNo.14484 maybe)?
