Mosquito Parts in Australia

Hello Folks:

The subject has been brought up about aircraft in Lakes in Australia, so whatever happened to the Mosquito parts that were found in a dump in Victoria, I believe? If I remember right, a few years ago a gentleman found landing gear, spinners, tires, and 20mm cannon from mosquitos at this dump. I'm just curious if more was found.

Well when I was growing up in Dubbo NSW a lot of Mossie parts were gathered from about 19 former 618 Sqn RAF aircraft based at Narromine and then taken to Sydney and stored at HARS shed. A few years back most of this material (we are talking several shipping containers) apparently dissapeared and as far as I know was never seen again so there is a lot of missing parts.

There are quite a lot of parts from RAAF aircraft still to be found in Aus and the AWM has rebuilt theirs, The RAAFM is rebuilding theirs and Harold Thomas at Camden is also rebuilding one. I believe there are also parts in several collections in South Australia and lots of other parts all over the country and in New Zealand.

Guys,

I think you'll find that Mr Lincoln Nitscke of the same name Military Museum on the Old Kapunda Road, Greenock in South Australia has a significant holding of Mozzie parts. he has also completed a full size replica using many original parts including a nice fit out of the cockpit.

I believe he obtained most of his parts from Victoria somewhere and to the best of my knowledge still has a good stock of parts at his museum.
The museum is a real credit to him as the mozzie is not the only rare bird he has, others include Boomerang, Vengeance and Catalina to name a few, all in various stages of repair and all on display.
